How to detect if code is executed from side bar

i want to fix the size of avatars that are shown on the sidebar. is there a way to say if_on_sidebar() { then do this } ??

You can simply adjust via CSS. e.g. using bp-default theme, avatars have this styling:
div#sidebar div.item-avatar img {
height:40px;
margin:1px;
width:40px;
}
change according to taste
