Forum Problems

  • I’ve been dicking around with the forums and have the Groups working and decided that it’s probably best to get rid of the site wide forums.  I am so confused now about what I have done with the slugs and pages…  If I uninstall the bppress plug-in and reinstall it, will I lose all of the groups that I created?  I have looked for info on how to go back to just one of the forum choices and can’t figure it out.  I don’t want to lose all of the work that I already spent in creating the groups.

    My groups page: http://www.tafaforum.com/user-groups/

I have a slug for a page outline that shows up on the breadcrumbs for the forums page: http://www.tafaforum.com/forums/   Have no idea how to get rid of it and don’t find that page in the menu or in the buddypress settings, so I don’t know how it got there.  I think that is the biggest problem that is keeping the sitewide forums from working properly.

    Help!

@rayela if you want to have the forums in your site, keep the site wide forums as the BP internel group forums are being merged into the sitewide forums.

No, you will not lose the groups you have created. But then again, per previous paragraph, if you plan to have forums in your site, you should keep bbPress forums activated in your site.

http://www.tafaforum.com/forums/ …. I think that is the biggest problem that is keeping the sitewide forums from working properly.

I believe you’ve figured out by now that that link does lead to the sitewide forums

I found a tutorial by Spencer Forum that had step-by-step instructions that I think cleared up my issues.  I was able to change the slugs and I think things are working correctly in the forum area now.  Here is his tutorial which will hopefully benefit others:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8mh3f6Vzbo

Now I’m having problems with registration.  I opened it up so that a few of our members could register and I could test what happened.  Two of them couldn’t access their profiles and kept getting the wordpress log in page.  Spence’s video also addressed some of that and I hope that the changes I made will fix that.  But, more importantly, I have been looking for a plug-in that will allow people to apply for entry to the site.  This site is going to be a free forum for our membership organization.  The plug-ins that I have seen are for paid memberships and have a lot more weight than I want (configuration with Pay Pal, etc.).

I did install the membership plug-in which hopefully fixed the problems I had with the two members, but that doesn’t offer any kind of registration options.  I would like it to operate like private Facebook groups: apply and get let in.
