@hkcharlie You can still use the old method from the front end, no problem. Know that there have been a lot of improvements in upcoming BP 1.8.
Also changing admins, mods and kicking people from the group etc. doesn’t really work very well in it’s new form. I’ve re-installed the Group management plugin for the moment.
I know 1.8 is on the way (which is half the reason I wanted to mention it) and I’m really looking forward to it as it sounds like quite a few a leaps. But as usual, slightly terrified at the same time, since usually we all know something isn’t going to work after the upgrade.

I don’t think this is true, especially since the 1.5+ releases. BuddyPress is rock-solid nowadays.
Buddypress is fine, it’s everything else we have plugged into it that I worry about.

If as before you’re talking about adding members to groups from the dashboard, I can without any problem.
From the dashboard:
Goto Groups
Find the group > edit
Add new members (where you have to know the persons name as is on the site) type it in.
click on it and it’s added under Add users.
Then what?
I’ve tried “Save Changes”, hitting enter, non works.

it works fine, you save/update just as though you were saving a post. on refresh it shows the member added and navigating to frontend shows user added to group.
Please do ensure you are testing in a clean environment though.
