BuddyPress.org

Hello Friends,

I am using a Child of Twentyeleven and am interested in learning more about BuddyPress.
Does BuddyPress provide an environment for me to set up a page where people can register themselves and once registered, can upload a photo and a brief text blurb about themselves.

Not looking for anything socially active, or for BLOG postings etc.
Simply need an identity creating page which then provides the user with his / her own area to upload a photo and a bit of copy about themselves.

If someone knows if BeddyPress can do this, I would be grateful hearing from you.
