how to register in subcategory and not whole site

I have created the above site using a Directorypress theme with buddypress and s2member. Russell Island Groups is a category and Russell Cycling Group is a group in that category. Now, when a new member wants to register for the cycling group, how does he/she register for the Russell Island Cycling Group only and not for the whole site. Can Buddypress help in this ?
How do I do that???
