2.1 top features
-
It’s that time in the development cycle again.
As the core team quashes bugs, and hopes for a breather to revel in the glory, here’s the last call for 2.1 features scope. What are your top 5 feature requests for 2.0?
(if there are Trac tickets, feel free to post links, but please ensure they are for features not bugs)I’ll get the discussion going with my top 5:
- Upload profile image at activation https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/4132
- Use taxonomies instead of/in addition to BP Xprofile tables https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/4796
- Hierarchical groups https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/3961
- Find members or friends close to me (my address or current location)
- Allow admin to select fields to display in user “excerps” on Groups’ user list page https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/4126

Jumping the gun a bit, but your enthusiasm is greatly appreciated. The core team will likely put together a wish list immediately before we start 2.1 development. Until then, you can watch the state of all-things-2.1 over on trac at: https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/milestone/2.1

@sooskriszta – do you mean 2.1?PS – @johnjamesjacoby quite a creative profile pic!
@johnjamesjacoby Rocking photo. Love it!

@henrywright Yup! Damn you, autocorrect.Ok, looks like the iron’s hot https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/query?group=status&milestone=2.1 , so while the core team is enjoying a pizza and relishing a job well done (2.0), sneak in your wishlist…this appears to be a short cycle…
Fix the following error:
Invalid Activation Key
Or
at least some kind of workaround it
in the admin section where admin can manually activate the user and send the email that user account has been activated.
Thank you.
@simple-man you might want to read the release docs more carefully 😉
https://codex.buddypress.org/buddypress-components-and-features/member/pending-users-admin-screen/I would still like to see at least some basic BP site privacy built into the core so I can eventually retire some plugins I did because I don’t have as much time to support them as I used too. I guess I could put them up for adoption.
I’ll revise my top 5 to:
Wishlist:
1. Integrate chat option (one-to-one, group chat, friends chat)
2. Profile header to show more info of use at a glance (much like what is shown on buddypress homepage that showcases James Jacoby’s profile header)1) Change group slug (old plugin does not work).
2) All possible types of X-profile fields (homepage URL, twitter URL, working multi-select boxes etc)
3) x-profile fields that can be set by admin and not edited by user.
4) Shortcodes or other options to display userquery based on x-profile fields. For example: display all users that have checked option ‘B’, all users that have run 2 marathons, all users from Europe etc.
5) easy way to change all base-level slugs (groups -> teams, members-> runners etc).2. Profile header to show more info of use at a glance (much like what is shown on buddypress homepage that showcases James Jacoby’s profile header)
Check out and chime in: https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/4126
I’ve actually done the 2nd point above (rather crudely) through a hook in functions.php.
But again, if this part of the core functionality (and the chat as well), then so much the better.if this part of the core functionality (and the chat as well), then so much the better.
I agree. And if you do feel that way, you should go say so at the Trac ticket https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/4126
