Widget/plugin to announce parties/hookup

Hi
I develop a social site where people can hook up for gatherings and one on one. I have the idea of having a plugin/widget where members can put in information on kind of social event, when, where etc and it all turn out as a list/calendar that I can promote as a social part of the site.
Anyone know of a plugin that kcan achieve something like this or how to actually do it.
