BuddyPress.org

I thinking of applying the CSS that is being offered for buyypress on a theme that I recently purchased to my current theme which its buddypress design is out-of-the-box one.
My question is, if I replace the CSS with the one that I need, will it survive the periodic buddypress updates?
If not, what is the best way of introducing a new CSS?
