[Resolved] Disable users activation email

    Hi, I’m looking for a way of disabling the need of email activation in the registration process, and I’ve found a plugin (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-disable-activation/ the descripcion says it also automatically logs in the user) and some code (http://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/3443 and #2 in http://wpmu.org/6-buddypress-power-hacks-you-dont-want-to-miss/) but I’m afraid to use those because they are really old.

    Is there an alternate/new way to do this?

    I want this because the activation email seems to work ok only for gmail accounts and the hotmail accounts do not receive the email (I have tried the mail plugins suggested in the codex). But I also would like to make the registration process shorter and super simple to my potential users.

    If the sent email can not be removed, maybe replacing the activation key with a welcoming message.

    I know that if I do this, the site would be vulnerable to sploggers but I have seen there are safety plugins for this such as wangward.

    You might want to take a look at the JanRain plugin. It allows users to login with any social network account, fb, twitter, etc.. and has an auto create account feature. No password is required then.

    Thaks for the suggestion Eric, but is not what I was looking for.

    About my issue: I changed hosting, it appears that buddypress and banahosting do not get a long as nicely as I would like to. The support people were nice and polite, but could not resolve the issue with the email fast enough.

    I also add that the BP-Disable-Activation works but, I deactivated it because I do not want a lot of unnecesary plugins.

    I recommend against disabling account activation, but I believe you can do so like this. Put this in your bp-custom.php:

    Thank you Paul, I decided to keep the account activation since the email problem got solved with the host change, and yes, disabling it seems a little risky.

    And thanks a lot for the second link, I had been adding code to my functions.php and have been wanting to remove the links created in the profiles for a while.

    I know this is a little old, but I’ve seen other questions linked to this answer.

    I tried the above suggestion and it took down the site. All pages read;

    Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '<' in /home/(Cpanl-User-Name-Retracted)/public_html/wp-content/plugins/bp-custom.php on line 3

    Paul do you have any other variations that might work or has anyone had any success?

    Running WordPress Multisite and BuddyPress.

    Same question here. Why isn’t the invalid activation key bug still not solved?
