+1 for envolve. It’s pretty cool, reasonable cost for the paid versions…

Many of the chat plugins I see require third-party services, and sometimes require users to sign up for accounts with third parties. The Envolve looks like it doesn’t necessarily which is nice. There are also:

Wow im surprised nobody mentioned BuddyChat, designed for buddypress. Google “Buddypress BuddyChat” to download it from the developer. I use it and its super.
Currently unable to locate the developer of Buddypress BuddyChat through Google.
