‘Post Update’ button in Activity does not display

The ‘Post Update’ button (that a user presses to post an update in Activity) does not always show.
Users are able to write in the field but the text box doesn’t expand in size and users cannot post because there isn’t a button to press.I’m using WP 3.3.2 and BP 1.5.5
The problem seems to occurr (but not consistently) in Chrome, Firefox and IE. All on Windows 7 PCs. No idea how Macs handle it til I test it at home tonight.
The only plugins installed are BuddyPress, Akismet and ‘BP Auto Login on Activation’.
The theme is ‘BP Columns’.
