Should my team fork BuddyPress?
-
There have been a lot of requests to build features into BuddyPress that the most common BP pluggins provide. So I put the question to everyone here viewing this board… Should we just fork from 1.6.1?
I personally think it is a huge undertaking, however, many people on my team are suggesting this. Just wanted to get some inside/outside feedback from even more users and developers.
Proposed features of the fork:
Self & Friends in personal stream like Facebook
Profile view like Facebook
Removal of global stream
Removal of friends tab in streams (no need for this if they are fed through personal stream)
Built in friends/follow with followers only PM (like FB subscribe functionality)
Default theme fixes button overlap for following (why would we leave this out?)
Live steam with mini updates to the top right with expandable view on mouse over like Facebook
Online friends list with one click chat initiation like Facebook
Multiple default themesEssentially the proposal will add most all features found on Facebook and Twitter out of the box.
There will be no ad support in the first release aside from third party plugins but could be in a future release.Comment with your thoughts and suggestions. I just woke up so forgive me if there’s anything I’m overlooking.
