get_site_option() not found, fatal error triggered

I cannot activate BuddyPress 1.0 as a result of the following error:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function get_site_option() in /*Redacted*/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-core/bp-core-avatars.php on line 17

I can log a bug in Trac if need be, but I want to be sure it’s not my setup first:

PHP v5.2.9

bp-themes have been copied to the wp-content folder

You are trying to use BuddyPress with WordPress. BuddyPress needs WordPress MU which you can get from https://mu.wordpress.org/download/. In future versions, BuddyPress will work with regular WordPress but at the moment it doesn’t.

And before you ask ‘how long’, I suspect it will be quite a while before BuddyPress supports WordPress.
