Upgrading from regular WP to BuddyPress

Is it possible to upgrade from a regular WP account to the buddy press version (or MU) and not lose everything that has been done on the current WP site? I have a site that I would like users to become more interactive with, right now we just list pink rock band shows and tours http://www.findpunkshows.com, and I really think it would benefit us if the site was more interactive.

Hi Liz

Just to clarify, BuddyPress is a plugin which works on regular WP or WPMU. You can disable and enable all or any part of it at anytime; so if you decide it’s not for you, it doesn’t wreck your site.

If you install BuddyPress 1.2 right from the plugin installer, and switch to the default theme, you’ll have a full-featured BuddyPress up-and-running on your existing site. Then you can play around and work on integrating the new BuddyPress pages into your theme (there are growing numbers of threads and documentation on how to do this).

I’d suggest testing and developing BuddyPress on a test version of your site, not the live one Also as a FYI, you can test BuddyPress at http://testbp.org/.

Hi, I just installed buddypress on my wordpress blog that is currently running bbpress. I guess I am missing something. I thought buddy press could run along side my blog and not take it over. I was hoping to create a community with buddypress and keep the template and look of my current blog. Is that possible? I installed it as a plugin through wp.

Hi,

I am now running WordPress 2.9.2 + BuddyPress 1.2.2 + BuddyPress template pack plugin. Integration seems good, except for one MAJOR glitch: I cannot write posts or pages from the back-end interface anymore!

Is this intended – I doubt it – or am I doing something wrong?
