Framework Integration Plugin (FIP)

Another project I have in mind is a plugin that enables Zend Framework applications. This plugin would ideally work for BP & WP/WPMU. In the simplest terms, the plugin would set up the ZF environment on the server and make it possible for existing plugins to extend themselves using ZF and/or allow the simpler creation of entirely new ZF-driven plugins which offload more complex DB operations to ZF and return results inside the WP/BP wrapper.

If properly abstracted, this Framework Intgration Plugin (FIP) could conceivably be used for Cake, Symfony and other plugins as well. One would install the FEP and choose their desired framework and the plugin would handle the rest.

If you are interested in this project, please msg/friend me and we’ll go from there.

    Thanks,

    Doug

Like the NING Migration Tool, if a project is already underway for something akin to the FIP, I am glad to lend a hand.

That would be an interesting and useful thing. I don’t have time to help at the moment.

    Burt,

I am creating a group for the effort. Join up if you’d like to follow and, perhaps contribute when you have more time.

Abit confused, what does it do?

@Gpo1: Zend is a popular PHP development framework. This plugin would enable that framework within WordPress. So unless you’re a programmer… it wouldn’t do a whole lot for you. If you are a programmer… it could make plugin development easier… which is pretty cool. Correct me if I’m wrong guys. That’s my rudimentary understanding.

@DavidLewis – Yep. You have the right of it. This would enable much more complex plugins driven by the Zend Framework and displayed within WP/BP. Think of shopping carts, complex event calendar/schedulers and the like.

@Gp01 – It is not exactly like working with the Facebook API, but the idea is similar. The big difference is that most, if not all, of the the apps would live on your own server, not on another site.

I created a group for this project. Join here:

Does anyone know if the framework-integration-plugin group is still active? The link to the group is producing page not found.
