I want to have a buddypress site that functions like a social network on ning.com.

(I do NOT want a site like ning.com, which creates social networks.)

Is this possible? ie, has anyone created a social network that is photo and video friendly? if so, please post on here…

For the most part. You’d have to mention specific features and functions to know whether it matches all of the features you’re thinking of or not. There have been many people who have moved their ning network over to BuddyPress. Although, it depends on which features of Ning you think are important.

The BP Media plugin should cover most of the photo and video needs, but you’ll have to check it out to see if it has everything you want.
