I have just set my website homepage to the users friends activity stream, and it works absolutely fine for people who have friendship connections. However, there is an error displayed when the person tries to view friends activity, but they don’t have any activity there because they don’t have any friendship connections.

I would like to to read something like “You will need to make friendship connections before you can see activity”, but instead there is an error message that says Fatal error: Call to a member function user_activities() on a non-object in /home/fitnesss/public_html/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-activity/bp-activity-templatetags.php on line 259
How do I resolve this?
