    can nobody help me???

    These are all that I’m aware of:

    Cometchat is working on a BuddyPress integration with friends support. It’s a paid script.

    http://www.cometchat.com/

    Bowob Chat works, but does not have a friend feature, also you might get the plugin author’s ads on your site. Free (w/ ads).

    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bowob/

    Footerchat is another possibility, again, it has no friends support and you will get some ads occasionally. Free (w/ ads).

    http://www.footerchat.com/

    Webbychat is another. Has a basic free option, which only supports up to 10 users. Variable paid options are available. You’ll have to manually configure the script to work with BP.

    ray – wow – cometchat sounds and looks really nice. Haven’t seen something like that before… Did you try it, would you recommend it? Our users would “die” to have a chat like that!

    – does it really integrate with the BP stuff like members, avatars, members-online, friends etc…?

    I haven’t tried Cometchat, but the demo is quite impressive. Integration with groups would be killer.

    Forgot to mention that you’ll need to modify Bowob if you want BP display names shown instead of usernames.

    Also chat data for Bowob, Footerchat and Webbychat resides on their servers. So if that’s an issue, you might not want to use these scripts.

    Cometchat looks really awesome. Slick and simple User Interface – where is Erich73 and his KISS statement :)

    I read on their forums about buddypress support, but that was back in November 2009

    http://www.cometchat.com/support/topic/51-new-integrations-launching-tomorrow/

    Does anyone know something more about their plans with buddypress?

    Cometchat give some more information in this topic http://www.cometchat.com/support/topic/269-buddypress-integration/

    try asking something as they are not very responsive it could help to get some answer showing that more people have interest in this

    It would be great if someone would work on an integration between TinyChat and BuddyPress. I assume there’s an API…?

    (And yes, us designers and somewhat of end-users have odd thoughts – I apologise!)

    I use realchat ( http://www.realchat.com/ )on a couple of websites, and it is really solid – it’s not the cheapest thing out there, but it’s also not the most expensive.

    Unfortunately there is no buddypress or wordpressmu integration, although there are free integration plugins for vbulletin, phpbb, drupal, and others. So I would think that a plugin developer could look at the code on this page:

    http://www.realchat.com/doc/database-integration.html

    and create a plugin that would allow logging in via wordpress/buddypress and show buddypress avatars – that would be awesome. In fact I would pay $100 for someone to make that a reality.

    I am currently testing the flashchat script which is cheap – only $5 – on one server, wnd will be testing integration with phpbb and with wordpress to see how it works.

    Someone wrote an integration script for it and wordpress 2,7 –

    http://forum.tufat.com/showthread.php?t=49926

    so I am thinking it may work – although the script has user roles from wordpress for user, moderators and admins – it says it does not pull the info for gender icons – If someone would modify that it would be awesome, as it is cheap.

    I have looked into the ajaxchat, and it looks cool with the way it can integrate into buddypress, was that on wpmu.org I think? – But as I commented there, I am concerned about the ajax chat and server resources, and privacy issues. Not that I have had any issues with it, I just imagine with a lot of people using it at once it may start to hiccup since it relies on sql for messaging. I would love to here real world performance issues with it running 75 users at once on a shared server.

    An integrated chat room would be awesome – wish I could help more with it!

    (now back to my learning php for dummies book) sigh.

    Im using bowob on my/buddypress currently it seems to be the most “fastest” and every user on the site is immediately in the chat. It has ads but for $40 you have it free for 150.000 uses.

    I do have currently the problem that all users can login (incl. persons i made admin) except for … me :)

    @mikepratt

    @Edelwater nice heads up. I hated all chat options until you pointed out BoWob. Did you have to do anything special to pull in BP Display Names on your install? Or did you just add it as a typical plugin?

    @r-a-y

    Keymaster

    @Mike

    You can easily modify the plugin to accept BP display names.

    The gamebreaker is the data resides on their servers and there’s no mention of what happens with that data. The website is a little sparse for info regarding that.

    I use the chat add on from Wibiya Toolbar (Tiny Chat) and we had a big event with over 30 people in the chat room at once(http://freelancerunplugged.com/blog/chat-your-face-off-review/)! it worked great but there is no friend feature. The good thing though is that it puts a little number in brackets next to the Join Chat button on the bottom toolbar so you know how many people are in the chat – but would love a buddypress chat option – it would surely kick Facebooks dodgy chat!

    Ok. So I’ve tried Comet Chat. Listen to me carefully..Do Not Buy. Horrible documentation, horrible support (or lack there of) and didn’t work properly with BuddyPress.

    On the bright side. Here is what you need and should released with a week that will work with WordPress and I’m sure BuddyPress with little or no changes:

    Arrowchat looks cool. Their screenshots advertise WordPress integration, so a BP integration should be quite simple.

    Rather than having a fancy AJAX footer chat, I would much prefer a chat app that has some form of permissible group functionality.

    @fostertime

    @r-a-y

    Agreed. Group integration would be killer.

    @mikepratt

    @r-a-y So are you talking about Group chats avail to anyone who is a member of the group..as opposed to just your “friends” ?

    Agree that Arrowchat looks more promising than Bowob. #fail if they keep my data

    @r-a-y

    Keymaster

    That’s right, Mike.

    David Aubin’s port of BlueImp’s AJAX Chat to BP has group functionality:

    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-ajax-chat/

    The original chat interface isn’t polished enough though and the actual port by Dave has its bugs.

    I currently have a v1.2 “re-port” of BlueImp’s AJAX Chat working on my test server. It functions well, but outputs quite a few warnings and notices in the server log! If I can get it to a stable state without the warnings, I might release it.

    If there’s a better, open-source chat plugin that supports multiple rooms, that would be another option!

    I have made tow posts to this thread, which I think are important, neither get published – they appear to me when logged in, but non one else can read them?

    The first post had three links in it, and it never got published.

    I edited it a bit, with only two links in it, and it appears that that one will not show to the public or any other members? What’s the deal?

    Hi,

    I haven’t touched buddypress-ajax-chat since the last release pretty much, but I’m interested to know what doesn’t work so that I can fix it. You said widgets don’t work? Can you tell me more?

    R-a-y log outputs? Do you php or javascript?

    Just send me the bugs, lol!!!! :)

    @Mike Pratt : Bowob only requires to 1. install the plugin after that it shows on all subdomains and the main site at the footer. It takes 5 minutes to get up and running.

    It also works fast and at the bowob site you have a configuration panel where you can set the admin, set to see the leave/join messages and so on. Users love it.

    They have a problem currently however that if a user has a blog and he is signed in that the bowob bar will not appear. It will appear for other users and users who are not signed in. They are working on that.

    So… I’m also putting in comet chat in between. This will be probably this week.

    But.. I must say that arrowchat also looks nice. I cant wait however for that one to go live.

    @Dfa327 and everyone else too,

    Just thought I’d chime in here with some comments on buddypress-ajax-chat. I purchased the premium version a while back and had Dave install it on my original BP1.1.3 site and it worked flawlessly across the whole network.

    I’ve now installed BP1.2 and only had to make a slight modification so the main chat would work. There’s no plugin-template in BP1.2. So simply copy-paste the one from BP1.1.3, add in the content & padder divs, add in the call for the sidebar and upload that file to your theme. It works beautifully.

    There’s only one feature that I haven’t managed to get working yet: invite Username. “Username” is not recognized. I take this as an opportunity to dive in and learn a bit about how this stuff works. If I can debug it myself… hooray for me!

    By the way, the shoutbox works just fine across all blogs of the network in BP1.2, although I haven’t had the opportunity to test it with multiple members ‘cuz I don’t have any yet ;-)

    @pcwriter,

    I have the same plugin. What changes did you need to make and move the template? I checked my install and I don’t see what files need to be copied for it to work. What do you mean by this statement? “There’s no plugin-template in BP1.2. So simply copy-paste the one from BP1.1.3, add in the content & padder divs, add in the call for the sidebar and upload that file to your theme. It works beautifully.” Can you pm me how you set it up so I can get this running again on my site?

    Thanks for the help!
