I don’t know where to ask this question O_O

    It’s not buddypress, it’s not WPMU, it’s 3.0 beta 2 — installed with subdomains.

I don’t have wildcard (at least I think that’s not possible, will ask my hosting prover tomorrow), so what I’m doing is simply directing the subdomains for the blogs I’m setting up to the wordpress root directory. That seems to work… sometimes. :/

The thing is I’ve set up like 2 or 3 subdomains so far, and only 1 of them work (the others return an error message like “No website configured” (seems to be created by hosting provider). It appears that for some reason it simply can’t grok .htaccess / index.php / whatever.

I’ve used this approach with another hosting provider and it worked entirely no problem (and the sites went live in like 2 minutes). I’ve read that some domain / subdomain configurations can take hours or even days.

So maybe I’m just begging for emotional support while I wait?!?!

I have no idea, but would appreciate any hints / tips anyone might be able to give! :D

ps: I have “Options +FollowSymlinks” at the top of my htaccess file (in case that matters), and otherwise, it’s just the plain + simple one generated by WP 3.0 after turning on multisite ;)

You should ask this question in the Alpha/Beta forum https://wordpress.org/support/forum/12

@Andrea_r has posted relevant info about setting up a Network in WP 3.0
    https://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network
Note : Subdomains work by using wildcard subdomains. You must have this enabled in Apache, and you must also add a wildcard subdomain to your DNS records. Some hosts will not support this, so you may need to ask your webhost before enabling this feature.
Which means you do not and should not add the subdomain physically to your server. The subdomains generated by WPMU and WP 3.0 are virtual subdomains.

Cool, thanks — I’ve posted a somewhat more coherent version of the question here: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/397369

    :)
