Hi everyone!

Looking to do a new BP community and had a few questions..

This will be a multi city community using WP multi site.

Is this type of set-up possible?

site.com is just html directory with all the cities listed out
site.com/new-york is the WP/BP install
site.com/miami same thing
and so on..

Will all the city forums share each other? i.e. member from miami can post in new york with 1 username.

Is this the best way of doing this? do you have any suggestions and what I need to know for this type of set-up?

While BuddyPress can be activated network-wide in a multisite installation to aggregate data from subsites, there can only be one instance of BuddyPress in either the main site or a secondary blog out of the box at this time.

Bearing that in mind, again out of the box, you could rename “Groups” as “Cities” and move forward with that. https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/before-installing/ – esp. test drive BuddyPress at http:/testbp.org

Check out this fantastic new plugin – BP Multisite http://wpmu.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/bp-multi-site.zip. I’ve installed and am testing it. Not completely sure yet, as there’s a permissions issue (see my comment on the article page below, but it seems to work like a charm.

Now I can have my main network site and not only set up a mixture of regular blogsites (like a restaurant review) and networks (a local English club) but offer my members the chance to have their own distinct network, rather than a mainsite group or regular blog! All using the same username, as @dgmodel and I’ve got it working with facebook connect, so people don’t even have to create ANY accounts!
