pages not found after server migration

    Hi,

I did the following to migrate to a new server.
    assuming my url is http://www.xxx.com
    1) i copied my entire directory (in my case under public_html) to the new server.
    2) i created a new db on the new server and restored it from the old one (same username and password so wp-config.php does not need to change).
    3) after 1&2 were completed i made the dns changes to point http://www.xxx.com to my new server.
changes took affect after some time but since then my main tabs such as groups, members, event etc are not available. when i click on them i get the message that the url is not available on the server.

I was under the impression that since i copied the folder and DB is a restore everything should work fine.
I am able to access the admin and my home page but pretty much nothing else.
have i missed a step here?
    help is appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Shai

@shaisimchi – Try renaming the /wp-content/plugins/ folder to something else, then refresh the /wp-admin/plugins.php page and rename the plugins directory back to normal.

Try accessing the homepage, does it work now?

this didn’t help – i had to reactivate all the plugins but it didnt change anything.
The homepage wasnt a problem as i could access it. the problem is other tabs such as members, groups etc.
    Any other ideas?

    Thanks,

@shaisimchi – Have you tried changing your permalinks?

This is what I am seeing in the Apache error log file:
File does not exist: /home/athcrash/public_html/groups, referer: http://athleticrash.com/

Are you using the default permalinks? If so, please try changing them:

I was not using the custom structure:
    /%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/
i did try already changing to default but the result is the same.

You should actually be using anything other than the default permalink structure.

Was a .htaccess file generated in your WP root directory?
Do regular WP posts and pages use your custom permalink structure?

It is now resolved. there was no .htaccess in the root.
i created it manualy with the rewrite rules and now everything is working.
    Thanks for your help!!!

I’m having a similar problem but I do have an .htaccess file in place.

    http://www.mmassive.com

I’ve migrated from and xampp build and it’s working and finding graphic assets, but all links are redirecting back to the home page. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help.
