Hi geekandcook, what settings page are you trying to access but unable to? Is this the administration one under your WordPress dashboard?
Did you perform the Update Wizard after upgrading the plugin? e.g. first section on https://codex.buddypress.org/releases/version-1-6/upgrading-to-1-6/
The best thing about the Update Wizard is when you forget to run it and think all is lost, then you realize.. wait that was easy.
ok i updated the Buddy Press and ran the wizard but now for some reason in the profile pages i see the html for the links in the profile BASE section
I recently updated my site too. And I seem to be having the problem of the “profile” link now showing up in all of my custom menus as well as links to all different profile links showing up next to the sidebar and in my footer. How can this be fixed?

Check if you’ve added a function to filter the wp_nav_menu in your theme’s functions.php file. If the filter is not targeted to one menu location, then it’s going to appear in all the custom menus registered for your site
