@alanchrishughes: could you not hardcode everything but the Log Out in that menu? I thought all of those items had actual URLs, they just each include the current logged in user’s @user name. You could grab that by using bp_displayed_user_username() in the link with the rest hardcoded, couldn’t you? It’s a bit janky and static, but it […]

@alanchrishughes: I see now 🙂
That should be interesting if you can get the login stuff working!

@alanchrishughes: when I reread that, I wondered if you meant that your code adds a second admin bar. If that’s the case, then that’s not really what I’m after 🙁 Trying out @JediSthlm‘s bp-custom.php code, but keep getting UNEXPECTED “:” errors about my giant “if” line here (the one about logged in, is_single, and tags):…[Read more]

@alanchrishughes: Thanks for the reply 🙂
Is there any way you could pastebin the code? It looks like the forum may have mangled it a bit.

@alanchrishughes
Can you explain further what you are after? Generate single links to pages? the menu functionality in WP 3.0 will list all pages created and allow you to create individual menus with selected pages added to them. -

@alanchrishughes The code I’ve posted is actually quite simple when you get right down to it. Simple yet powerful. It does everything you want a dropdown menu to do, and it does it all automatically behind the scenes. It starts by identifying what links belong to dynamically generated BP directories and adds those to the adminbar […]

@Jens Wedin @alanchrishughes I was looking for a way to include all navigation links in one navbar. Jens’ code snippet is brilliantly simple. Thanks! The only drawback is you have to add links manually to get them to appear in the adminbar. I’ve modified the code (borrowing inspiration from a snippet previously written by @David Lewis) so that: […]

@alanchrishughes yes create a blank bp-custom.php (not bp-functions.php) and paste on the code. Save and upload the bp-custom.php file to wp-content/plugins/ folder

@alanchrishughes Thanks buddy. I know I have to limit direct uploading in the beginning (perhaps few pics and some other limits on media) and encourage embedding from other sites. Later on, when we start making some money then we can afford to allow more direct uploading. @sj Thank you for taking time to answer all questions. I […]

@alanchrishughes I am looking for both embedding from other sites and also members loading directly to our sites. In the beginning, most of the videos will be embedded from other sites to kickstart the site and at the same time members can also load videos/photos directly to our sites. I am researching video/youtube type of themes […]

@alanchrishughes I want youtube like page layout and functionality for videos. It is ok to also have media inserted in the comments/activity etc but that is not my primary need. I can use “oEmbed for buddypress” for inserting media in to comments/activity but I am afraid if it will cause issues later when I replace with […]

@alanchrishughes I will soon check it out. It appears the plugin does both photos and videos which is good. Do you know any sample sites using it or may be some screen shots. Just wondering if the plugin provides any youtube type page layout or the videos/photos just get posted in the comments/feeds/posts wherever the URL […]

The domain name is http://www.PunjabiTube.com and I am little hesitant to put BuddyPress site on it without video functionality because video is kind of expected and should be the landing page that users will see first after login. And then they can visit other pages on the site for social networking needs. Thanks.

@alanchrishughes Thanks for your input. Yes, I agree with your reasoning for a niche video sharing community network site. My plan is quite similar to this: I plan to develop this network for a particular community speaking a particular language with about 30 million population in many countries/cities around the world. The plan is to let […]

@alanchrishughes The features outlines in the BuddyPress Media Group Albums document (http://code.google.com/p/buddypress-media/issues/detail?id=5) are features that are in the queue to be added to upcoming versions of the plugin …like, within a month. They could certainly be added by other people that know how to extend plugins, but I’d…[Read more]

@alanchrishughes 1) We’re working on adding code to the plugin to help people debug their web servers, because 95% of the time, problems are being caused by the web server, not the plugin. 2) As a developer, I stopped using Adobe Dreamweaver last year and never looked back. If you’re working with WordPress templates, you need […]

@alanchrishughes – try contacting the plugin dev and see if they can update the content filters for buddypress. the only profanity filter bp-ready i’ve seen is https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/webpurifytextreplace/ but that is a pay-for-solution 🙁
