Thanks – I can see that I can point it to a static page if I want, but what I am trying to do create a home page similar to that of http://www.buddypress.org, just not sure how to get the posts to display like they do below the navgation

I am wondering if anyone could direct me to somewhere that would give me a tutorial on how to change my homepage of my site (http://www.islandparish.com) from a list of posts like they are, to a 2 column magazine style with an excerpt for each? Max six visible on the home page. Been a coder for a while but a noob to WordPress

On your dashboard (wp-admin) you have settings –> Reading. You can point the frontpage to any page you like
