hi all! i found out it is a server thing thats going wrong and created a workaround to fix the problems on different types of server configs.
update is coming today! 1.0.2.1

Did you use the facebook app ID? and App Secret?

where did you download the plugin from? Its not yet in the wordpress repository because they are having some problems.
Please grab the plugin from the buddystream.net website.

About the FB problems, are the settings for the users shown? (member side)
If so try to reset the user you are using.
@stevnjones, ligar is wright you have to setup the keys before the settings are shown.

@LPH2005 Did you entered the api keys? When those are not set in the admin pages the settings are not shown.
