In reply to: A quick note about WordPress 3.2
James makes a good point. If you use a plugin (or custom code) that registers a non-standard versions of jQuery, you will have problems with the JS in bp-default (as well as WP and many other plugins).
In reply to: A quick note about WordPress 3.2Well, it will be a bit more complex. But we’ll do our best!
In reply to: A quick note about WordPress 3.2In reply to: Another “Users Can’t Register” Question (*Sorry*)Confirmed. This is a bug in trunk, for multisite. I tracked down the problem and am about to commit a fix. https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/3313 svn up your BP installation to get the fix.
Thanks for letting us know, and for running trunk!!
In reply to: How to add a NEW nav item to GROUPS nav barIn reply to: Mass Group Creation possible?It is very complicated to build a general purpose tool for something like group imports. The data that people have in CSV format varies extremely widely from case to case. The amount of extra coding that would be needed to build an all-purpose import tool (in contrast with a single-use, custom-built tool) is enormous. For the purposes that 4ella describes, a custom script would need to have maybe 50-100 lines of code. A plugin that can handle all possible cases would need many thousands, plus a complex UI.
That’s not to say that it shouldn’t be done, just that it’s not easy. Generally, it will be worth your while to pay a competent developer a few hundred dollars to do this one-time import for you.
In reply to: Mass Group Creation possible?I don’t see a problem with that number of groups.
You can see how BP handles group avatars in groups_screen_group_admin_avatar() (bp-groups.php) and the avatar functions it uses. This process is a bit tricky, and is probably going to be the biggest challenge of the whole thing. My advice is to look at the way the BP names group avatar files, and write a bash script that renames your images according to this pattern. BP’s crop functions are slow and not really meant for this kind of mass creation process.
In reply to: BIG activity stream bug when deleting a topic!It’s been fixed on trunk and in the 1.2 branch.
In reply to: BIG activity stream bug when deleting a topic!I’m looking at the code, and I think you’re right. Could you post a trac ticket please?
In reply to: Mass Group Creation possible?Well, it’s not *that* simple. You still have to assemble the $args array, which will take a few more lines of code. And setting a bunch of groupmeta, depending on the complexity of your CSV, may take a while as well. But yes, in essence, this is the idea.
In reply to: Mass Group Creation possible?Generally, for this purpose, there will be no need for direct SQL manipulation. The general idea:
`$data = fgetcsv( $csv );
foreach( $data as $d ) {
$args = array() // do some stuff with the $d array to set up args
$group_id = groups_create_group( $args );
groups_update_groupmeta( $group_id, ‘whatever’, $d[4] ); // again, whatever you want
}`These instructions will show you how to enable Network Mode in WP: https://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network
This will not affect BP, except that you will have a Blogs tab on your main nav.
I’m afraid I don’t know anything about the gamechangers part. If it turns out that you go with a Subdirectory Network installation, you’ll have to make that subdomain off limits at Network Admin > Settings.

This does not appear to be a BuddyPress problem. The function sanitize() does not exist in BP or in WP. (The SimplePie class does contain a sanitize() method.) Look in your story.php file, which appears to be a custom PHP script, to find out more about what’s up.
In reply to: Custom Profile (xprofile) data not being savedIf the problem is with registration only, and you have a custom registration screen, then it almost certainly has something to do with the registration customizations. There have been no changes in BP or WP, to the best of my knowledge, that would cause the problem you describe. But the only way to know for sure is to debug. Start dropping var_dump() statements into the functions in bp-core/bp-core-signup.php to see where things are getting lost.
In reply to: BP Global Redirect QuestionYou’ll have to build the URL. Try this:
`wp_redirect( $bp->root_domain . ‘/’ . $bp->activity->slug );`It’s pretty easy to redirect users after login. Something like http://buddydev.com/buddypress/buddypress-trick-redirect-users-to-their-profile-on-login/ will work.
If you only want to do it the *first* time a user logs in, or only if the user has not filled out the profile, it’s trickier. Before returning `bp_core_get_user_domain( $user->ID )`, you’d want to check against some piece of data, such as `get_user_meta( $user->ID, ‘last_activity’, true )` (which will tell you the last time the user logged in, which I believe will return false if it’s a new user).
In reply to: Disable /wp-admin/ for "normal" users@naved – Put it in wp-content/plugins/bp-custom.php . Create that file if you don’t already have it, making sure to begin it with
`<?php`
and ending it with
`?>`In reply to: Can BuddyPress do this?I don’t know of anything that will, at the moment, allow for the kind of “rating” you’re asking for here. I assume you’d use BP activity as your ‘ideas’, though you could also have a custom post type (which would require coding).
You might check out BuddyPress Like, which might get you at least part of the way there: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-like/
Have you tried just disabling BP’s registration hijacking? I haven’t tested myself, but it might work. In your functions.php:
`if ( bp_core_is_multisite() )
remove_action( ‘wp’, ‘bp_core_wpsignup_redirect’ );
else
remove_action( ‘init’, ‘bp_core_wpsignup_redirect’ );
`What does “real posts” mean?
If you want the ability to include media in activity items, you might check out https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-activity-plus/
In reply to: Band profilesYou don’t need a plugin to do the first part. Just use groups, plus https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-group-reviews/
Categorization will be trickier, and will require some sort of custom plugin. This plugin may help get you started: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-group-tags/
Brajesh is right; it’s probably a Javascript problem. I’d suggest checking out Suffusion’s custom BP template pack. Otherwise, as a stopgap, you might try changing line 23 of wp-content/plugins/bp-template-pack.php from
`wp_enqueue_script( ‘bp-js’, BP_PLUGIN_URL . ‘/bp-themes/bp-default/_inc/global.js’, array( ‘jquery’ ) );`
to
`if ( !is_admin() ) wp_enqueue_script( ‘bp-js’, BP_PLUGIN_URL . ‘/bp-themes/bp-default/_inc/global.js’, array( ‘jquery’ ) );`so that BP’s scripts are only loaded on non-Dashboard pages.
It works for most people – to the best of my knowledge, there is no known issue.
I have heard of people having problems when using their webhost’s auto-install. Did you do this for WP or for BP?
Do you have access to the database? Can you see whether the forums tables have been created? They should look like wp_bb_forums, wp_bb_topics, etc.
How would BP know about the custom fields? The only fields that BP can really know about with any certainty are the post_content field and perhaps the featured image. It probably wouldn’t be wise for BP, by default, to look through all of a post’s custom fields when creating activity items, as many people use them for many different things.
I recommend hooking a filter to either ‘bp_blogs_record_activity_content’ or ‘bp_activity_thumbnail_content_images’, and handling the custom fields for yourself. It shouldn’t be too hard – look at the function bp_activity_thumbnail_content_images() in bp-activity.php for some hints on the markup. (Your function will even more straightforward – you really just need to pull up the value of your custom field, and then build the markup as on the line that reads
$content = ...in that function)
