In reply to: Multiple Budypress Networks, one install
@andrea_r Your use case is a pretty sensible one. Can’t believe you’d suggest that one CUNY school has no interest in the others, though

Very glad it works for you! The loop can indeed be very awesome when you wrap your mind around it!
@dwdutch –
1) Exactly right.2) Most (all?) BP-specific functions that default to the logged in user are named in a way that makes it clear. bp_loggedin_user_domain() is an example. There are some WP functions that take the logged in user as a default argument, and they’re generally not so helpfully named (fwiw the context is generally not so complex on a blog as it is in a BP network). current_user_can() is an example. When in doubt, I do a quick search through the codebase of a local installation. cd to the correct directory, and then
grep -nR "function current_user_can" ./, etc. While the functions in bp-x-templatetags.php generally don’t accept arguments in the normal way – they get their arguments from the context of the iterating bp_has_x loop – there are also some functions that take user ids (or group ids, or activity ids, etc) as arguments. For instance, have a look at bp-groups.php and groups_get_total_member_count() – this isn’t intended to be used in the context of a groups loop. Generally you’re going to be better off using a loop, as the api is really designed around this kind of use, but you can use these other functions to do some things without loops.
3) I used to use that phpxref on bp-dev.org all the time, but sadly it’s a version or two out of date, and is kind of useless at this point. (bp_has_members, for instance, used to be bp_has_site_members or something like that). If I had some spare time and bandwidth, I would set up an up-to-date phpxref of the current version of BP. In the meantime, I recommend following @r-a-y ‘s advice and going directly to the BP codebase, until the community has come up with a better solution
@bobs12 – The BuddyPress Backward Compatibility plugin https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-backwards-compatibility/ contains the old theme as well as the old wire code. You could install that plugin and have pretty much everything back the way it was.
As Paul said, those functions are intended to be used in a theme template. More specifically: they’re meant to be used inside of a member/group/activity/etc loop. So if you’re inside of a member loop
functions like bp_member_name() will automatically detect which member is currently being processed. There’s no need for a $user_id argument. Most of the bp_has_x functions take arguments for specific members. For instance, bp_has_members( ‘include=3,7,24’ ) will make a loop of just those three members. Inside of that loop you can use any of the templatetags functions.
See, for example, https://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/custom-buddypress-loops/the-members-loop/
In reply to: Removing the gap between the header, and content.@bigleeroy FYI – Changes that you make to bp-default will be overwritten when you upgrade BuddyPress. Build a child theme to make sure that you don’t lose your customizations: https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/
In reply to: group typesI recommend using groupmeta to accomplish this. The functions you want are groups_get_groupmeta and groups_update_groupmeta.
Thanks for the link – I’ll start with that plugin, so I don’t have to start from scratch.
Signups (including non-activated users) are stored in wp_signups table. I have looked briefly but have never found a plugin for WP admins to manage these signups (activating accts from the Dashboard, resending activation emails, etc). Hard to believe, actually, as it seems like this is an area of great need.
Maybe this is something I’ll write myself, as I’ve had need of such a thing on multiple occasions and I’ve usually had to dig directly into the db to find the activation keys.
In reply to: Send Group Invites missing ?You don’t happen to be running BP trunk, do you?
In reply to: How to DIsplay Only Required Fields on SignupThe operative lines in Brajesh’s code are 62-64
In reply to: Tiny MceTry adding the following four lines to the end of the main bp-tinymce plugin file, just before the ?>
http://pastebin.com/DkkX6iVdIn reply to: Tiny Mceok, gotcha. The problem is that the tag whitelist that the plugin is supposed to add to is not working for some reason. What version of BP are you running?
In reply to: Tiny MceDo you have access to the contents of the database, through PHPMyAdmin or something like that? Can you see if the tags are being saved properly in, for example, wp_bp_activity?
In header.php
http://pastebin.com/EcDZFtNbIn reply to: Tiny MceDo you have any textareas on the edit profile screen, where the tinymce box appears? (I think it’d be called a multi-line text box on Dashboard > BuddyPress > Profile Field Setup.) Can you verify that it’s happening on xprofiles?
Also, you might try the beta version I linked to in this thread: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/third-party-components-plugins/forum/topic/tinymce-for-buddypress-works-for-12-as-well/
In reply to: Tiny MceIs this happening with all kinds of input? Forum posts, private messages, activity items? Also, what version of bp-tinymce are you using?
In reply to: New version of Forum Attachments for BuddyPress@ericreynolds007 Very interesting. I don’t know in detail how wp-minify works, but off the top of my head I’m at a bit of a loss for why minified JS would affect the download of items. Maybe wp-minify decides what to compress based on mime-type and thinks that the uploaded files are js/css? I’ll have a look at this one of these days – thanks for the heads up.
In reply to: Fav IconUse an absolute link, as the relative link won’t work when you’re not in the document root. http://mydomain.com/wp-content….
In reply to: Invite users to groupsIn the trunk, the invitation stuff is a little bit broken because of some updates to how component checks are working. In short, the trunk version is making a few errors about whether or not the friends component is active, and if the friends component is deactivated, you won’t see the Send Invites tab. It’s working in the stable 1.2.3.
In reply to: Tiny MceAre you sure that the tags haven’t been saved? When you look at the source, are the ol and ul and li tags there? Or is it a stylesheet issue? Check your stylesheet for list-style-type: none
In reply to: BuddyPress Bar on external pages@ipstenu – I had the same problem, took me forever to figure out why it was happening.
In reply to: BuddyPress Bar on external pagesSweet! Glad it’s working.
@hnla – I think it’s more important that you leave comments about a given plugin in a place where others are likely to see it (and you’re likely to remember to check them) than that you leave them in a “well-organized” space. Which is to say that you should continue to use the thread if you’d like.
