I think that would not be needed and would look kinda dumb haha
I do think rvenable his idea is brilliant.. sound like exactly the right approach!
In reply to: Multiple user types – possible?My problem is basically that I’ve spent years learning myself all kinds of stuff (xhtml/css/photoshop/marketing/journalism/community manager) but always skipped the PHP part. If I decided to pick up programming PHP 6 years ago, instead of waisting countless hours drawing ugly designs in photoshop, I would now be a very happy programmer
I’ll look into Lynda, because I’ve learned a lot from them in the past (I followed a few audio production courses, which were great!)
In reply to: BuddyPress screencasts – what do you want to see?I see your point jivany, but so far I’ve seen that about 90% of the active BP Communities use the default theme with some slight modifications. With some clever editing/focus on certain things which almost every BP site has, it could be very useful.
Think of something like http://www.wordpress.tv:
I would also rather see very specific and in-depth tutorial from BP Pro’s sooner then later, but if you look at the questions asked on these forums, you can not skip the basics here and simply presume that the “easier” stuff will be figured out as they go.
Imagine you stumbling upon BuddyPress.org and being able to get a few nice basic video instructions. You get a sense of professionalism and a clear view of what’s possible with the software, the advanced stuff we all like to see can be covered at a later point imo
And about Facebook and Twitter;
A screencast of twitter would have saved me quite some time, and don’t even start about Facebook lol.. I’ve tried 2 hours to find a feed of my status updates and after trying everything known to man I still haven’t found it. Facebook is awesome but it makes no sense whatsoever on certain aspects
In reply to: BuddyPress Links 0.2.1 releasedGreat! I’ve written a blog post about it;
This plugin is extremely awesome indeed!
You can create a new blog with a completely different theme without a problem.. just create the blog, go to Appearance > Themes and select the WP theme of choice
My site will feature a blog dedicated to videos only:
No that hard to set up
In reply to: BuddyPress screencasts – what do you want to see?Also a clear explanation to the users between their buddypress profile and blog dashboard would be nice! Btw I’m really glad you’re picking this up, i think its a very smart move to make!
In reply to: BuddyPress screencasts – what do you want to see?Initially I would not focus on us (site admins) but on buddypress its core functions. Explain potential new users what bp can do for them, and their target group and how users can use their bp site. For us all these things are wellknown but there are a lot of people who don’t! As an added bonus these videos can also be embedded on bp powered site (if the admin wants this) to help its new users a long.
After these introduction videos you can get in depth and create more advanced tutorials and solutions for site owners. I think it would not make much sense to skip the basic BP fundamentals!
In reply to: BP 1.2 and bbPress admin/pluginsIf that would be possible that would be very handy! Is that possible?
In reply to: Multiple user types – possible?You think you can make it a plugin DJPaul or maybe a documented php file/tutorial, basically anything that might help the average non-techie out ?
In reply to: Multiple user types – possible?A plugin would be a good solution.. Extend Member Profiles or something. I certainly would not be able to creating something like this with my zero PHP skills
In reply to: Multiple user types – possible?I don’t have a solution for all your problems but assigning different “user” types to your site is easy:
– Create a xprofile field in your BuddyPress admin. For example: What kind of user are you:
a. Swimmer
b. Skater
c. Surfer
– Install the BP Member filter plugin: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/bp-member-filter
– Users can now filter members on the member directory page to find certain usertypes
The only thing you might want to look into is to show/hide specific xprofile fields for different groups. That’s more advanced and requires some new code to be written by someone

Good luck!
edit: Maybe if you combine both tips from Boris and me you just got your solution

ps: I’m interested in the jquery profile fields stuff as well.. sounds handy!
You have the Supporter plugin from WPMUPremium:
http://premium.wpmudev.org/project/supporter
That looks like a really good alternative.. I don’t think there are free solutions out there for introducing a service on your site which is meant to make money haha
In reply to: BuddyPress 1.2 and multilanguage+1.. Can’t wait for this to be implemented!
In reply to: How To Set Blog For Any User To Postnice introduction from a new member

https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-community-blogs/
that should do the trick.
In reply to: Donation pluginI need something for this as well.. If it does not appear soon (created by someone else) I’m planning to hire someone to create it for me. This would be very useful indeed!
In reply to: Facebuddy themeSure… here you go:
https://trac.buddypress.org/changeset/2316/tags/1.0.3?old_path=%2F&format=zip
That’s version 1.0.3
In reply to: Facebuddy themethen I don’t know what to do.. You can try to save some money or try it make it yourself if you have css/xthml experience. If not you might wait a while because I heard that Xevo from this forum is working on a FB based theme on his soon to launch site http://www.bpninja.com
Good luck!
In reply to: Facebuddy themeThis a theme that comes close:
http://premium.wpmudev.org/project/buddypress-social-theme
demo:
http://buddypressthemes.org/theme-preview/BuddyPress+Social/
It’s a premium theme though
In reply to: Wire Posts in bp 1.2Because if I would mention your name somewhere for no important reason you would get annoyed by all the notifications you’d receive.. For example if I wrote a heavilly discussed blogpost on my site and people are talking about it around my network I would go crazy with the amount of notifications I would receive

you need a character for this to make it work and @ is the best one
By the way I certainly like this feature and I don’t think it’s that confusing for a user (apart from the displayname/username issue). But I do think it would be good if site admins could enable or disable this feature from the admin panel, just for those we don’t like it.
You do! And Andra wrote a handy tutorial to transfer you BP theme to a blog theme;
http://www.bp-tricks.com/design/member-blog-themes-to-match-your-buddypress-theme/
Good luck
In reply to: Preferred langauge in user's profile settingsThere is a multilingual plugin for BP available which does this:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-multilingual/
I don’t know if it’s compatible with the BP 1.1 or the upcoming 1.2. I need this as well so we should look into it then

Also take a look at this ticket I made today: https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/1593
If the “supergroup” feature would be implemented it would mean that you could make different “homes” for different countries/regions and still have a central homepage where all sitewide content is shown.
In reply to: How to categorize Groups ?I’ve made a topic on Brajesh his forum where I proposed the idea to him.. If you would like to think with us you can register and leave some feedback to Brajesh and maybe feature requests:
http://buddydev.com/forums/topic/group-category-plugin#post-116
In reply to: How to categorize Groups ?There is some functionality written by TravelJunkie which allows you to create group types. Find his post here: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/soon-to-release-bp-group-control-plugin
@Erich73: Supergroups are similar and could be seen as another group category.. The ideal situation would be if you could create different categories and could also say which category could do what. For instance:
Group Cat 1: Can use forums, activity stream and groupblog plugin
Group Cat 2: Only forums
Group Cat 3: Supergroup which can do all + has an extended activity stream as described in trac: https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/1593
To make it ever better it would also be cool if you could set up different desciption fields to fill in per group;
category 1 : Info, history, goals
category 2: Name, description, latest news
There must be someone who could help us out with this guys

edit: I am willing to pay for this plugin to be developed. Might not be the only one I think?!
In reply to: Feature Request: HastagsYou can easily implement hashtags by making all words with # before it a “tag” in the main blog where BuddyPress is installed. Then you would automatically have a popular subjects cloud (by using the cloud widget).
In reply to: Cannot post new topic on forumHi Michelle,
I think I know where the problem lies.. BuddyPress 1.1 does not need the BPPress integration plugin and it might actually cause problems. So I would advise you to uninstall BuddyPress completely remove buddypress (also remove the BuddyPress tables from the database) and disable and delete the BB integration. Then install BP again and activate the forum component on your BuddyPress admin page.
Let me know if this helps
