In reply to: adding content to the 1.2 default theme homepageI have this topic bookmarked and make sure to add it on the new BP-Tricks.com.. this seems like a mindbender indeed.. Thanks for figuring it out though
In reply to: Creating a Cincopa Gallery Plugin for BuddypressCurrently in beta, and looks to be quite awesome..
It can do most of what you wish, but I’m not sure about external hosting/cloud hosting of media
Great to see a new theme and it looks very polished and cool! I have no use for a dark theme, but I’m sure there are a lot of people who will! Thanks for sharing this with the community
In reply to: Looking for a new baby name?I might make a new website where I allow registrations and disallow blog creation.. Put one HUGE widget on the frontpage with the names of the new users and call my site:
Put it full with advertising and BAM! I’m rich..
Thanks for this awesome idea!
In reply to: Blog limitIn reply to: BP 1.2 Accordion UI for compact sidebarMy current solution is indeed a accordeon which is fully cross browser compatible and very lightweight! (powered by jQuery Tools). I’ve just managed to make it into a widget (damn that was easy!) and now I need to finish the code and make it more user friendly. JJJ offered to help me out, so I think this widget will see the light of day very soon

My widgets does not go as far as on your screenshots, and it merely provides links to the most important aspects of a user profile (so no displaying of messages/blogs etc). I want it to be clean and small, and the current widget does this

I’m also working on a child theme for BP 1.2 which this widget will feature.
That tabbed widgets plugins looks usefull btw
In reply to: BP 1.2 Accordion UI for compact sidebarHi Damon,
Glad that I could be of inspiration hehe
I’ll look at making it a widget also tomorrow.. If my widget is finished I’ll share the code here.. I’m almost done, just need to figure out some small thing. When it’s done I will share the code in a tutorial+download on the new BP-Tricks site! A screenshot of my widget:

In reply to: Found this all new 'Anti-Splog_ anti -spam for BPPlugin looks great and their blog is also great (WPMU.org).. I’m not so sure about their premium thingie though.. The plugin does look very good, so I’ll keep an eye on it
This is absolutely awesome! I’m so going to use this to display information from a certain country only! Thanks a lot for explaining this Mike (and all who helped him)
In reply to: Photo Albums…. omfg!!I don’t agree with what you’re saying. I understand the logic behind your ideas, but I think that it’s much better to create a gallery component from the ground up created for buddypress only.
If you have someone working on it which is 110% familiar with BuddyPress and knows exactly which core components and 3rd party plugins might have use for photo galleries, you have a much stronger and cleaner end results then using an existing solution.
You’ve mentioned keeping BuddyPress clean and “non-bloated” for several times, and I think that adjusting/hacking/modifying/adepting existing scripts to work with buddypress (which means a high chance of code conflicts, unused code and a clunky user experience) is not something that I would choose above a well written BP only component.
Would Facebook use an existing photoalbum script? It might sound like a very stupid comparison but I think BP aims to become a open source solution which stands completely on it’s own and can be compared with the bigger social network sites (atleast I hope that’s what they are aiming for:) A awesome BP Gallery component is very much needed and something which should not be (code)based on any existing plugin/script out there.
My 2 cents
In reply to: Index page modification????This might help you making sense of what’s possible with plugins and BP/WP/WPMU
http://www.bp-tricks.com/plugins_and_themes/plugins-where-do-i-find-them-and-which-ones-to-use/
Are you using the new BP .1.2 or the 1.1 version? In 1.2 you can upload a header in the theme options of your admin panel. if you’re using 1.1 I would strongly advise you to think about using 1.2
In reply to: Sub groupsYou should be able to post I think… strange.. you can always send Brajesh a message on BP directly:
In reply to: FEATURES REQUEST Classifieds (Plugin)I think you are showing real character by picking this up (again) yourself. I’m looking forward to your plugin and I hope to see it appear soon
In reply to: User-Blogs to have same design as testbp.org ?That’s exactly what I had in mind Erich, so luckily we both want the same thing
In reply to: User-Blogs to have same design as testbp.org ?Expect it around the same time BP 1.2 launches. I’m working on a new BP 1.2 child theme which will also be released around the same time
In reply to: User-Blogs to have same design as testbp.org ?I will make a BP Default Blog theme very very soon and it will be downloadable from BP-Tricks.com. Keep an eye out Erich, a LOT of very cool stuff coming soon
In reply to: Wire Posts in bp 1.2Thanks for brining back the original discussion, I totally forgot about it
I absolutely agree that it should be possible to publish a message in someone his activity stream, and Facebook nails this aspect.for example:
When I sent my friend Arx a message on his stream it shows up on my stream like this:
“You said to Arx: How are you doing?”
And it shows on Arx his stream:
“Bowe said to you: How are you doing?”
When others visit my profile they see my activity and also the public message I sent to Arx. But this message/action does not get added to the sitewide activity stream of all my friends and Arx his friends..
This makes it somewhat a semi-public message (it’s on both your activity streams, but not added to the site wide stream or friends stream) but this allows people to have public conversations profile to profile in a way which is not confusing.
I think this is the best way to handle the situation, and the most easy to pick up on.
In reply to: Sub groupsSchwooba and Neobabs, the idea has been proposed on BuddyDev.com
http://buddydev.com/forums/topic/group-category-plugin
There is something in the works, so if you’re interested let Brajesh (the developer) know in that topic!
