In reply to: Inserting logoSorry did not read properly! I used David’s method for my admin bar logo, and that should REALLY do the trick
In reply to: Inserting logoTry this:
<a href="http://yoursite.url"><img src="http://yoursitelogo.png" title="Your site name" /></a>This should work
In reply to: BuddyPress Privacy Component: An UpdateHaha Jeff you’re right, bit busy on other things.. I’ll try to have a good look at it asap!
In reply to: Is this the way Forums are supposed to work?@Tore.. true.. but IF you are running a big community (and that’s what I am aiming for) forums are a really good addition because the activity stream get’s VERY busy.. And we all know it’s much easier to disable something then add it in, so I think more options for interaction are a good thing! It’s just a matter of tweaking BP to make it fit your community, the tools are there!
In reply to: BP 1.2 Member & Group DirectoriesThe best possible option right now is using JJJ’s BP Member filter:
https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/bp-member-filter
That way you can let your users filter users by name or profile field. This way if you search for “Tom” in the field First Name, you will get correct results.
Since JJJ is working on improving this plugin, I think it’s meant to become a core functionality in the near future. Until that time comes, I think this is a pretty good alternative for solving your problems Mike
In reply to: BP-Tricks.com (new post updates)Another new tutorial added:

In reply to: BP-Tricks.com (new post updates)New tutorial added:
Was working on this when I noticed the new transparent bar in the new BP style.. You can still use code for adding your own logo though! Enjoy
In reply to: Post your Twitter accountI’ve noticed..My entire twitter screen is filled with your tweets.. luckily about 50% of those are highly informative so no problem there

James I can’t find your profile on twitter?!
In reply to: Welcome to SimplyCharly.com and Get SmarterYes same problem.. Why would you approach new potential users in such a way? Your idea does sound kinda cool

In reply to: dutchmall.nlIf I understand correctly it does not matter which licensing type they use because as soon as they use WP code it becomes GPL. At least that’s what a read here:
This means that whenever a theme or a plugin uses just one function from the WordPress code, GPL license automatically ‘kicks in’ and takes over. And since plugins and themes must use WordPress functions they automatically become GPL as well.
Can someone confirm this is correct?
In reply to: dutchmall.nlThen I stand corrected and a mod can delete my post. If this is perfectly fine and accepted in the wordpress community then I am probably seeing this the wrong way..
I personally would find it a bit strange to sell something which isn’t yours.
For example if it took me many hours to create a BuddyPress theme or plugin and decided to sell it, and notice that someone else is selling my plugin for a lower price, I would be VERY unhappy!
Right now everything that’s developed using any WP hooks automatically falls under the GPL so you are not doing anything wrong I think, but I honestly don’t understand why you would do this.. If everyone would start reselling stuff from others the open source community would quickly become a very nasty place to be. This is just my personal opinion and I’m interested in what others think about this.
I am not trying to start a flamewar and I’m sorry for accusing you for stealing, that was uncalled for.
In reply to: Status Update CloudReally great idea, and I think it can be done.. Just need to find someone who can do it
In reply to: Buddypress themes, what first?I would like to see a rework of the parent theme.. basically an “improved” parent theme which has a different layout, and is easier to customize. Now there are all kinds of css files etc.. So a simplified and cleaner parent theme to work from would be great.. Great work Xevo
In reply to: dutchmall.nlI have a critical comment for you.. You are reselling premium themes from WPMUDev premium on your own site.. I would call that stealing my friend…http://dutchmall.nl/buddypressthemas/2009/12/03/buddypress-community-thema-premium/
Basically you are reselling all themes and plugins from other people for your own benefit.. I am not sure if this is illegal (I think so, but I don’t know much about the GPL license), but I presume you know this is wrong ?
Hi John,
The tabs are already working and are powered by jQuery Tools (http://static.flowplayer.org/tools/). The JS only weighs 50kb and works a treat.. I’ve also used it for the welcome slider tut op BP-Tricks.com. See an example here: http://cfcommunity.net/FOK2009.
I think I’m getting the idea (I can’t write php so this makes this all the more difficult) and if I understand correctly you can call the groups already under a different tab? How would I format the code for every tab?
I’m guessing I need to modify
<?php if ( bp_profile_group_has_fields() ) : ?>
and say that *if user fills in something from profile group “medical” show it in this tab*. Right? haha sorry for asking me to basically spell it out for me, hope to get there some day
In reply to: Using Facebook Connect with BuddyPresshttps://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-fbconnect/
Altough a bit basic it works very well!
In reply to: BuddyPress Privacy Component: An UpdateI knew some intimidation would do the trick! That’s great news Jeff, looking forward to it!
In reply to: BP-Tricks.com (new post updates)Thanks everyone! I’m currently extremely busy but I really enjoy writing some blogposts in my free time (they always take waaaay more time then I expect
) and there is some good stuff in development by others. Looking forward to your contribution stwc, and I expect a lot of Big Lebowsky references in your post!
In reply to: BuddyPress Privacy Component: An UpdateMaybe we should ditch the kind approach.. WE NEED THAT ^%^^^&E$$% PRIVACY COMPONENT. WE ARE INCAPABLE OF MAKING SUCH AN AWESOME ADDITION TO BP OURSELVES. GIVE IT NOW !!!111!
Ok that was uncalled for.. sorry…..

it’s ready when it’s ready Jeff
In reply to: Are We Wasting Our Time?Everything is possible with some inventive thinking, good programmers, good contributors, an appealing look, lots of time, huge amounts of money and 110% dedication, but that does not make it an easy job!
In reply to: Are We Wasting Our Time?I like the way you’re thinking (thinking BIG!) but I must say that I am also a bit confused in what you are trying to offer.. By the sounds of it you are trying to appeal to a massive userbase of totally different kinds of people.. For instance you are talking about business directories and music artist communities on the same network..
I’m affraid that you’ll need to develop a HUGE amount of stuff to keep only those two parties happy, because they both need different stuff.. You can offer them the most generic social networking functions like Videos, Groups, Blogs and profiles, but users will not use your site if they can use other social network sites which are more fully featured and totally meant for a specific userbase (Artist/Business Networking)
I’m not trying to demotivate you, I’m just saying that maybe you should try to put your goals a bit lower and try to get a community running for a certain kind of user. For instance I’m working on a social network site for people with Cystic Fibrosis (disease) and for this alone I need to tons of work making my site appealing to my targeted userbase!
Good luck with everything, and I do wish you all the best
