If you want to completely disable public registrations, and only want to set up a invite only BuddyPress community, check out this plugin as well: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-mu-secure-invites/
Should work in combination with the plugin Mercime mentioned
In reply to: 2 profile types and 2 “members” pagesSomething which can also be extremely helpful for everyone in this topic is the BP Profile Search plugin

Hi not-so-poor Programmer,
That stuff made my head spin. Exactly the reason why I became a poor designer. I kind of misunderstood the functionality as it seems, and so it is more to prevent dupes in the stream, and for hidden and private groups.
I think the functionality described by me will be extremely useful for bigger communities. I’d rather not start blocking certain types of Activity Stream items (https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-block-activity-stream-types/) and just show certain items to followers/friends only.
So if you could do something magical to make that happen.. I think a lot of bigger BP communities will be pleased. Or just turn it into a plugin! (HINT HINT LOUD NOISES)
In reply to: My Forums DisappearedUpdate your permalinks again, and if that does not work check to see if your .htaccess is correct. Another option that worked for me in the past is going to BuddyPress > Forum Setup > Use existing installation. Then you should see the path to where your current BBPress forum is configured by BuddyPress (should be your root folder). Just press Install and it should work.
If you don’t want to take ANY chances make a backup first
In reply to: activity slider??Yep.. Ehmm.. Let me try and find it

here: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-activity-stream-bar/
It displays them in the footer, not sure if you want it like this..
In reply to: Problems with .htaccessCreate a new file in your root folder called .htaccess and put the following code in it (assuming you’re using a single WP install, not MultiSite)
`
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^index.php$ – [L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /index.php [L]`
Save the file and make sure it can be read by the server (chmod 644 I think). That should do the track if you have set up your permalinks properly (/category/postname in my case)
In reply to: Love This TuneYeah pretty great site! Love the layout and design. Only idea would be to make it a little bit more unique (less YouTube). But awesome none the less!
In reply to: BuddyPress Questions & AnswersYou can do this a regular WordPress plugin. What features specific to BuddyPress do you need? Or get a premium theme like this: http://wordpressqa.com/instant-qa/
In reply to: Facebook Connect IntegrationCheck out this article a wrote sometime ago. Just follow step 1, and you’ll have exactly what you need

In reply to: [Resolved] Speeding up buddypressAwesome! I’m really happy with those results.. Beating Yoast is impossible since he’s not running BuddyPress.. so needs a lot less scripts
And don’t forget I’m running about 30 plugins more then BP.org.. (not to brag or anything lol).In reply to: [Resolved] Speeding up buddypress@Pisanojm: This stuff is a great motivation to keep writing tutorials for BuddyPress. Great to hear that it helped for your community

@Gregfielding. you could use the CDN Sync Tool as well: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/cdn-sync-tool/.
BUT I would advise you to till install W3 Total Cache and simply disable all the caching functionality. It’s a matter of ticking a few boxes, and only enabling the CDN option. I have not tested the CDN Sync Tool, but the huge benefit of Total Cache is the inclusion of custom files to be served through the CDN:

This is the big trick on getting avatars/group-avatars and static files served with max speeds
In reply to: [Resolved] Speeding up buddypressI’ve just published a tutorial about setting up a CDN with Total Cache and MaxCDN. It does wonders for me, and takes care of the parallel loading and serving of your static files through a CDN:
Reading up on it now, but the problem does not occur on my setup(s). It does seem to be a issue popping up more (reading the thread you pointed me to) but I have not experienced the issue.
It took a while.. but this should be pretty much all you need to know about setting up a CDN with MaxCDN/W3 Total Cache in combination with BuddyPress. The good parts for the people who already have a CDN running can be found at the end.. Hope it’s useful!

In reply to: [SOLVED] Hide ”Groups” tab in BP theme?Open up header.php in your theme and remove it. It’s probably a li item. Just search for “Groups” in the file and you should be able to find it easily
In reply to: Excerpts for activity stream@Pisanojm: writing it now.. as promised!
In reply to: Hiding empty xProfile fields in member-header.phphnl: Yep.. I did that.. but they where all old and did not use the BP 1.2 method of displaying the profile fields and seemed to add a a lot of extra unneeded parameters to the snippet. Hopefully it’ll be easier for php noobs to find and implement now

a good thing to do is renaming the plugin folder to “plugins_off”. This disables all the plugins.. so you can see if the problem is located in a plugin. Logging needs to be set up: https://codex.wordpress.org/Editing_wp-config.php#Configure_Error_Log
Also try to follow this guide if want to start over. This is a pretty solid method:
Have you installed any Cache plugins? This can cause a blank page.. Can you reach the admin panel? Do you have any messages in your error log? Also you can try to revert back to the default theme by renaming the currently active theme folder through FTP.
In reply to: Hiding empty xProfile fields in member-header.phpYou can read the post here:
http://bp-tricks.com/snippets/displaying-certain-profile-fields-on-your-members-profile-page/
In reply to: Hiding empty xProfile fields in member-header.phpWorks absolutely perfect Boone.. I’ll put it up on BP-Tricks as well.. this is useful stuff! Thanks!
It’s pretty easy to do that @Pisanojm! I’ll write about it on BP-Tricks today or Monday!
In reply to: Display members who contain specific profile fieldWhat you want isn’t possible EXACTLY as you describe it.. But with this plugin you can get pretty far:
