| WordPress Origin Story | I got involved with WordPress when I was about 15 years old. I’ve always been interested in web development, but when I started looking into it more seriously, I realized that there were a lot of barriers to entry. Not only do you have to know HTML and CSS, but you also need a server and a domain name, which can be expensive for people who are just starting out. I had heard about WordPress from some friends who were already using it, and it seemed like the perfect solution to all of my problems. It’s free—and even better than free: open source!—and it’s easy enough for anyone to use. Plus, it lets you customize your site without having to know how to code anything yourself. I downloaded the software onto my computer and started playing around with it right away. It took me a few months before I really felt comfortable building sites with WordPress—but when I finally did feel ready, all my friends wanted me to build them websites too! |
