    What function are you trying to call?

    Next you are going to tell me that long descriptions run into the text for the ‘join/leave group’ area on the right of the directory. I know. I recommend that you ask somebody who enjoys banging their head against css for that. I’m just not very good at it.

    I see what you are saying. You want to be able to display an excerpt of the group description in the group directory. The best way I can recommend to you is to create a filter in bp-custom.php. Create one if it doesn’t exist in the bp /plugins/buddypress directory. This is a file where you can put all your custom mods for bp. In there, stick the following code:

    function my_group_directory_description($text){

    global $site_groups_template;

    // only filter the description in the groups directory

    if ($site_groups_template)

    return bp_create_excerpt($text, 50);

    else

    return $text;

    }

    add_filter(‘bp_group_description’,’my_group_directory_description’)

    That hooks a filter for the group description only when in the group directory and limits the work count to 50. You can modify the number of words limit by changing ’50’ to whatever word count you want.

    The number of lines can’t be calculated easily. Too many variables. The bp_create_excerpt() function works by word count.

    The admin bar lives in : /bp-core/bp-core-adminbar.php

    If you are making mods to the code you are going to have difficulty upgrading. bp allows most features to be altered without modifying the core code.

    If you don’t plan on using the blog component you can deactivate the blog component and the menu item will disappear.

    I’m confused as to where you want this moderation to occur. In wpmu or bbpress? These are two different software packages with two different sets of roles. There are administrative roles available in both.

    What version are you on RC1? If you upgrade to the latest trunk it will remove all recent blog posts and activity as well for the blog.

    @burtadsit

    Participant

    Well, bp hasn’t tagged an RC2 yet. Did you mean the current trunk? What is the ‘excerpt function on the directory listing site’?

    – It is possible, in the profile, to show the posts list and favorite topics that the user added of the blog and forum

    Everything except the above is a standard part of bp.

    bp stores information related to the blog you deleted and also for the user. To get rid of all the info that the user has generated you have to delete the user in wpmu Site Admin > Users. Deleting the user will remove from bp:

    * all profile data for the user

    * all recent blog post records for the user

    * all blog post comments for the user

    * all sitewide activity items for the user

    * it flushes the cache

    * all group memberships for the user

    * all friendships for the user

    You can grant additional users the site admin role in Site Admin > Options > Site Admins

    List the user login names you\\\’d like to have that role. Site admins are the only users that can go on any blog and delete a post. Deleting a post from a blog removes the recent blog post record and the activity for that post.

    adv_user, sometime in the next several months. There isn’t any specific *public* timeline for releasing a version of bp that works on regular wp. Only automattic knows.

    You have an existing wp install and want to connect another install, buddypress, to that? I don’t think that is possible. You could install wpmu and bp. Import your existing wp blog into wpmu and then install bp on a different blog. That you can do.

    Your current blog would be imported as blog id 1 and bp could be installed on another blog you create. That would work.

    Those are the member, groups and blog directories. They live in respectively:

    RC1

    /wp-content/mu-plugins/bp-core/directories/bp-core-directory-members.php

    /wp-content/mu-plugins/bp-groups/directories/bp-groups-directory-groups.php

    /wp-content/mu-plugins/bp-blogs/directories/bp-blogs-directory-blogs.php

    trunk

    /wp-content/bp-themes/buddypress-member/directories

    There is a job board in the dev section. Nothing but a wire now. https://buddypress.org/groups/buddypress-job-board

    Emails go out to all those who are members of that group. You could also post a topic here since the job board doesn’t have a forum yet. Post it here and one of the mods will close it after posting. People can contact you through your profile in a PM.

    bp and wpmu use the same user table. A bp ‘account’ is a wp ‘account’. You can use any theme you like on your blog. All blog posts and their comments show up in activity from any blog that hasn’t been set to ‘private’.

    That function is used in a template context. The answer to your question is it depends on where you are displaying the avatar. Start with this: bp_core_get_avatar()

    There aren’t any docs for the template tags yet. Each component has a file called bp-<component>-templatetags.php.

    That function lives in bp-core-avatars.php and takes a user id.

    bp does not run with the standalone version of wp yet. It requires wpmu right now.

    That\’s better. Looking around.

    EDIT: I took a look at that trac ticket and it specifically mentions changing the permalink structure to /%category%/ and that RC1 has problems loading the proper templates. It looks to me like that is what is happening in your case. It\’s like the comments.php template isn\’t being loaded. I\’m not finding any html structure from that template under your blog posts. No template no structure. https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/554

    The only solution I can suggest to you is change the permalink structure back or install the trunk version of bp. Installing the trunk version means upgrading wpmu to the svn branch of 2.7, deleting bp from /mu-plugins and moving it to the new location in /plugins.

    I’m not sure what you mean by “sharethis must have been on their end”. I can’t access any blog post on that site or even /blog without sharethis running and stopping me from getting anywhere. Whatever that is, it’s not operating correctly and is shutting down that site.

    @burtadsit

    Participant

    I\’ll take a look at it.

    EDIT: I tried to get to one of your blog posts but can\’t seem to. It\’s waiting forever for something called l.sharethis.com? That site is down, busy, something? Don\’t know what that is. I\’ll go look at what could stop comments from showing up based on a permalink change.

    You have existing posts that were created under one permalink structure and then you changed it? Those are the posts that suddenly don\’t have commments? If you create a new post using the new permalink structure do the comments work?

    What version of bp and what version of wpmu? There was an issue with RC1 and changing the permalink structure. Specificly with the %category% type.

    Are you using the bp home theme?

    I don’t think you are seeing the errors that are happening. The error log is the apache error log for your webserver. In most cases the php errors and warnings get sent there.

    You said you asked your host to give you a backup and got back all the old tables. Try installing wpmu from scratch. Start with a fresh database that is empty. Install and test wpmu with the new database. Then install and activate bp.

    This has been fixed in trunk.
