    Andy, the nonce exists in both the form and the link. The call is just dying. No err msg in the logs. nonce failure.

    The only think I can think of Andy is that the form nonce in the directory is getting mixed up with the link nonce.

    function check_ajax_referer( $action = -1, $query_arg = false, $die = true ) {

    if ( $query_arg )

    $nonce = $_REQUEST[$query_arg];

    else

    $nonce = $_REQUEST ? $_REQUEST : $_REQUEST;

    If $action is from the form and _wpnonce is from the link. nonce will fail. I can’t find bp setting _ajax_nonce anywhere.

    This only fails in the directories where a form with it’s own nonce wraps the link nonce.

    Suggestions from the gurus say it might be a PHP version problem. You should be running php 5. Can you check with your host?

    I don’t know exactly what it is either. It’s something you two have in common though. I haven’t heard of any other reports of this, nothing in trac. I’m waiting until a little later today and see if the big gun, Andy, has time to take a look at this thread for us.

    The wire posts automatically detect links in the form of: http://example.com. You don’t have to hand code the <a href> links unless you want it to be prettier.

    I can’t reproduce this and I can’t seem to find a reason why it would fail. You two sure you upgraded *everything* member theme, home theme, recursively all the directories in /mu-plugins where bp lives?

    What plugins are you running other than bp?

    cdutoit, what is ‘tabber’?

    I closed that other thread and invited modemlooper over here. Here’s what I said over there:

    It’s the same problem: add friend, join group and letter list. I can’t reproduce this on my side. The only thing I can think of is that the security system called ‘nonce’ is failing on your sites and only when the individual link security is wrapped in a larger form security mechanism.

    What do you two have in common?

    modemlooper, did you just upgrade from a prev version of bp like cdutoit?

    I’m gonna close this thread. Let’s all talk in one. See me in:

    It works in the member theme but not in the group directory.

    Chris, do me a favor please. I created a group on your site called ‘test’. See if you can join that group. Go to the groups directory and ‘join’ that group. Does that do the same thing? I can’t test this myself. I’m already a member of that group. :)

    Your site seems to be having the same problem as modemlooper with the letter search. Gets me closer to figuring out why it’s failing.

    I see what you mean on your site. I created an account there. I’ll look into it.

    I like this “Tag This” concept more and more.

    – The tagging window could display a list of the user’s groups. Select a group and the existing tags for the group are displayed.

    – Select one or more tags or create one or more.

    – Enter an excerpt of the content by copy and paste, type something in or an excerpt gets inserted for editing if it’s an internal tag.

    – A list of content types is available for selection: ‘blog’, ‘blog post’, ‘site’, ‘forum’, ‘forum topic’, ‘feed’, ‘uncategorized’.

    – Item gets sent to the group’s tagged content moderation queue for approval. Possible reassignment to a different tag(s) within the group and check for content type match.

    – Approval posts to the item’s tags and posted in some default tags such as ‘recent’ (cache), ‘author name’.

    – Activity streams are updated.

    – Subscribers to group tags are notified by email, notification in admin bar, inbox notification(?).

    (Yes I know Andy, start small)

    The widgets for the components, each live in a different directory. It goes like this:

    /mu-plugins/<component>/bp-<component>-widgets.php

    So for example Recent Posts widget is in /mu-plugins/bp-blogs/bp-blogs-widgets.php and is implemented in the function: bp_blogs_widget_recent_posts()

    The core component has the Welcome, Members and Who’s Online widgets.

    IE, FF, Safari? What environments are you running in? Windows, linux. Subdomain or subdirectory installs of wpmu. Were you running bp previously and this is an upgrade to RC-1? If so did you update the member theme?

    The external tagging has to refer to an url. All I can record is the author of the tag says it fits in the context ‘Awesome’, it’s a piece of content of the type ‘Blog Post’ from site ‘Transformers-R-Us’.

    It’s impossible not to have external content not be Glinks. :)

    The internal tagging would be component/item. The internal tagging would afford lots more flexibility in display, search, browsing. I can discover alot more about a chunk of content if I have access to blog id/post id -> (get me that record) -> author, date, content etc.

    Is there anything in your error_log? What do you see there when you reproduce this?

    “and would probably render group creation irrelevant down the line (all in good time).”

    Dynamic groups Andy? I think you’d still want and need the groups as containers for members and apps like the wire and forums.

    What John was suggesting was a “Press This” type of mini app for tagging content to a bp site. It would be useful both on the site and just browsing around the net. “Tag This” instead. That type of tagging would only be useful for things that have urls. An image in a slide show or album may not have an url. Wire posts don’t. Content that would be on a bp site that don’t resolve down to an url would need a little “Tag This” link so that the link would transfer component/item_id information to the popup “Tag This” window.

    I think we are talking about the same thing.

    No they do not show in the activity stream. I personally wouldn’t want alot of “Buy Viagra now” comments showing up on my site. :)

    Howdy. You can access the bp group forums from Groups > My Groups > <pick a group> > Forums. The bbpress theme doesn’t get changed by doing user integration with wpmu.

    It sounds like you have one more step to take and that is to configure bp group forums. That is detailed in the file /mu-plugins/bp-forums/installation-readme.txt

    There is also an extremely helpful topic by Trent located here: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=471

    Howdy again. I’m thinking along the lines of johnjamesjacoby. Tags as containers for content as well as the traditional ‘keywords’. It’s possible to have both. Depends on the perspective you have.

    I agree that not all content of interest to group members or site members can or will be generated within the group.

    Just noticed this topic. Little late I know but.. I think a subscription mechanism would be very useful. Not just for blogs but for forums also. It was one of my early “I’m gonna do this someday” projects in bp. Haven’t had a chance to start it yet. I’ve just started working on a ‘tags’ enhancement for bp groups. The ability to tag site content and manage those tags at the group level.

    Just thinking out loud here.

    Tags for content would be useful at the member level as well. I could create a tag in my profile that contained all the blogs I visit and read. I could tag the forums I visit. Sites I visit. Blog articles of interest to me. Forum threads I find useful. Entertaining things I find in my travels on the net.

    Just thinking out loud here. :)

    Thanks. I am having some problems trying to figure out exactly what the problem is. See here for details: https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/504

    Unless something magical and wonderful happened to my skill set overnight, this one is stumping me at the moment.

    Yep. Forums css is trashed in IE7. Not just testbp.org. Thanks. I’ll see if it’s been posted in trac and what the problem is. Maybe. Don’t have the wonderful firebug tool in IE that I have in FF. Something similar but it’s just not firebug. :)
