In addition to my first reply, you need to have the ‘Extended Profiles’ component checked in your Buddypress settings under ‘Components’.

I’m running the same version of BP & WP that you have, and I can access custom profile fields under the ‘Users’ menu –> Profile Fields.

    Hope that helps.

If you are currently logged into your site and you click on the ‘register’ link, it will redirect you to the homepage. (Because of course, you’ll already logged in! so why register? ;-) Make sure you’re not already logged in. And then try the ‘register’ link.

Hi Wendy, If you post a link, it might be easier to have a look at what your issues is..

@Hugo @mercime Thanks for your guidance. On a testing server I took down all plugins and gradually tested everything out the culprit was the Easy Mailchimp email subscriber plugin available here.. http://www.najeebmedia.com/wordpress-mailchimp-plugin-2-0-released

And without that plugin, comments work like a charm. I guess if this was my own post, I could set it to resolved :-)

@mercime Well, testing the theme on it’s own on my local server shows that comments work without issues, so I don’t think it’s a theme issue.

@Hugo, The problem described by the first poster, perfectly fit my situation, So i thought it would be fine to chime in with my voice here. I actually thought I was doing something good to keep forums threads to a minimum. I’ll be sure to start a new thread next time.
I haven’t de-activated the theme, because unfortunately, the site is now live, and I didn’t test it thoroughly before launch. So I geuss I’ll get it setup up a dev server and then do the testing you suggest.

In general, besides plugin conflicts and permalinks, are there any other culprits? server side things?

    Hi @mercime I have the same problem. WP 3.3.1 and BP 1.5.4. I’m using a child theme based off a Theme from themeforest.net (Gratitude – http://themes.zenthemes.net/gratitude/ )

You can see the live site with the errors here http://yogamalafoundation.org I de-activated buddypress plugins (which subsequently also weren’t working ) and then I reset permalinks. Still no go. Any help would be uber appreciated.

@shawn38 thanks for the video link. It helped me sort out the conflicting URL issues with bbpress vs buddypress

Going on what I could find in the Buddypress customization guide.. https://codex.buddypress.org/extending-buddypress/bp-custom-php/

I created my own bp-custom.php and placed the code
`define( ‘BP_ENABLE_USERNAME_COMPATIBILITY_MODE’, true );` into the file, now my profile’s edit link works like a charm. Thanks for posting this issue a while back.

Hey Fella’s I’m having the same issue as described by mralexweber. But I’m unsure about where I can find this setting..

    define( ‘BP_ENABLE_USERNAME_COMPATIBILITY_MODE’, true );

It’s not in wp-config and I can’t seem to find bp-custom.php in the BP plugin folder. Any direction? Thanks!

Thanks for the help Charl! adding the rewrite_module for my Apache in WAMP fixed the issue.
    Much appreciated!
