It’s built into WPMU (now called WP 3.0 Multisite). Just go to Super Admin->Options->Limited Email Registrations. Not sure about WP Single Blog mode.

techguy posted on the forum topic Setting up registration with buddypress and s2member in the group Installing BuddyPress: 15 years, 4 months ago
From my experience with s2member you have to have the PayPal buttons first, have them pay. Then after they pay on PayPal they are redirected to a registration page where you can have them fill out all the forms. I don’t believe you can do it the other way around with s2member. Although, they’ve created […]

1. Test the upgrade on a backup server so you can test plugin compatibility first
2. Make Good Backups before the upgradeOtherwise, manually should actually be less risky of an upgrade than the auto upgrade.

techguy posted on the forum topic I need ideas for theme creation. in the group Creating & Extending: 15 years, 4 months ago
How about a theme focused on…
-Groups
-Forums
-Blogs
-etcBasically, make the theme really expose certain BP functions. Like in my case, I’ve modified it to be VERY Group centric.

techguy posted on the forum topic Changing default INDEX? in the group How-To and Troubleshooting: 15 years, 4 months ago
Why not just use a child theme and modify the index.php to show whatever you want the page to be? You could also make it show one thing for logged in and one thing for not logged in. You probably could even look at referring page or set a cookie or something to know if […]

Just create a language file and change all the references to group: https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/customizing-labels-messages-and-urls/

@bpuser44 Glad you like my sports fundraising concept. Initially my focus is signing up sports organizations. In some cases that’s the school, other times it’s a non-profit organization and other times its the overriding association that might have a dozen or more teams. I’m basically trying to build a platform that will work for any organization […]

At first I wondered if I should click on the link. I was wondering what was being exposed. So, is the basic concept of the site to give people a place to put their info?

Oh dang. You’re right. Europe doesn’t understand the craziness that is American fundraising.
Thanks and best of luck on your site too. BP could do some really cool things for sports teams.

@markusk I just noticed that you’re looking to make a buddypress page for a sports team. I just launched a BuddyPress website for sports teams. It’s really designed around fundraising for the team, but I’d love to hear what you think of it. You can find it at http://www.givingsports.com If you want to sign up without having to pay, you can…[Read more]

BP Gallery works well for it. oEmbed is another option if you want the image to be hosted somewhere else and just embedded in the stream.

Yes, you can just do one blog even though you installed multi site. That’s what I do on http://www.givingsports.com (which I just launched). The choice of using the original homepage or not is harder. However, you can keep your original home page and still have all the BP features around it. That’s kind of what […]

I’m currently using WP multi site, but just have not enabled the blogs feature for users. So, it’s essentially a WP single user. The reason I enabled multi site is that I may want to use the blogs feature later, WP multisite has some extra options (like username validation), some plugins work with WPMU and […]

Anointed, That’s exactly the idea. I’m going to launch a non-sports related one at http://www.givingsquare.com shortly. You could create a trip to Haiti group and have all the kids in church sign up for free. Then, they send out emails, post to twitter, facebook etc asking for people to support their trip. I’ve built it […]

@justbishop
Sorry. I reverted it back to a different version after testing was complete. That link will work now. Although, now to really see how it works you’ll have to fork over some $$. So, if you don’t want to do that, you can see essentially the same thing on my demo/development site: http://somelunch.com/register/accept-invitation/noemail/6/1 -

I like the groups their apart of. Would you mind sharing your code for that? I’d probably want it in a widget in the sidebar instead of under the profile, but could be adapted from your code I’m sure.

At the end of today I’m launching my first real BuddyPress website at: http://givingsports.com/ Today I’m just trying to get some people to test the site and make sure nothing is broken with it. So, if you have a few minutes to try and break it, I’d appreciate your help. Starting tomorrow you’ll have to […]

I found this little function: $user_test = new BP_Core_User( $referring_user_id ); Has the full name, but you still have to go through all the xprofile fields. Plus, is it ok to call the user info this way? Will it have problems down the line. Another option is to sync the display_name with the name in […]

hi @techguy,
interesting site and concept. looks good – but not quite what i’m planning to do 😉 .. and after all, being from europe (austria) this concept of “fundraising” actually is something we don’t even know like that, at least not in sports..
good luck with the site,
markus.
