techguy posted on the forum topic Changing Avatar size sometimes creates Fuzzy Avatars in the group How-To and Troubleshooting: 15 years, 5 months ago
So, I haven’t figured all of bp_core_fetch_avatar() out, but here’s some of the types: type=thumb type=full Interestingly, the code I pasted in my previous post took the thumbnail image, but displayed it the size of the full (150×150 I think). So, it was pixelated and ugly. So, I changed it to type=full and it’s a […]

I’ve been trying to get it to pull various size group avatars and haven’t had much luck. Here’s the code I’m using: $avatar = bp_core_fetch_avatar( array( ‘item_id’ => $group->id, ‘object’ => ‘group’, ‘type’ => $type, ‘avatar_dir’ => ‘group-avatars’, ‘alt’ => $alt, ‘css_id’ => $id, ‘class’ => $class, ‘width’ => $width, ‘height’ => $height ) );…

Oh yes, that’s right. You should be good then. I was thinking more of removing spammers that did validate, but then did nothing more. Or they did a drive by spamming. I’m glad to have a forum like this as well. Honestly, I’d missed the sense of community that you get by being really a […]

@sbrajesh It seems like the group avatar’s use this same code. How would you call the bp_core_fetch_avatar of varying sizes for groups by group id?

Looks like the deleted user also stays listed in the members list and still has a member page. I’m sure there’s a way to clean it up. One of these days someone will come out with a plugin that removes users that haven’t activated.

Yes, I should have mentioned to delete them within WP. At least you learned a lot from the experience. I don’t think you’ll have major issues with it. Probably a few activity stream items still there (which seem to remain even if you delete them in WP) and if that user comes back to register […]

There’s a free version too that’s pretty full featured.

I’ve never seen a plugin like this. It’s an interesting idea. I’m trying to think of a way that you could implement it. There’s a lot of places you’d have to check for a link it seems.

I edited my first po file so that I could change the groups name. 147 line edits later and I’m done. Luckily it’s a one time per site thing or it would be a REALLY major pain. It seems to me that the po and mo files could be used on any site once they’re […]

I liked this follow up post about the GPL from the WP lead developer: http://markjaquith.wordpress.com/2010/07/17/why-wordpress-themes-are-derivative-of-wordpress/ I learned a lot about the license as well.

You can do a simple query on the database using phpmyadmin. The query would depend on if you’re using WPMU or WP.

I can confirm that you just have to install the SSL certificate (doesn’t work on a shared host as well) and then BP works fine. Just realize that there’s a cost (on the server) to running everything over SSL. It uses more of everything I believe (CPU, memory, bandwidth).

invite_anyone_activate_user() is the function. I don’t do extra profile fields. I use that to redirect to a payment page so they can pay to join. After they pay, I redirect them to a Thank You page with their payment details. This is just a page with a special page template applied to it. I also have the activation disabled […]

Not right now. Although, WP is now working on the post by email for WordPress posts/comments. Once they refine that process, I’ll be very surprised if someone doesn’t build this type of functionality on the backs of that work.

If you do modify it, do it as a child theme: https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/
That way when you have to upgrade, your changes won’t get overwritten.

@techwadi I don’t think I ever figured it out for WPMU. I tried all sorts of hooks and then gave up. I just moved the invite anyone function call into one of my other plugins to handle that part of the process. I’d share my code, but I’ve changed the sign up process pretty significantly and […]
