techguy posted on the forum topic Register username with uppercase? in the group How-To and Troubleshooting: 15 years, 8 months ago
@Leroy12
JJJ commented on the trac ticket. You might check it out. I know that WordPress use to allow and even check for the uppercase. Although, I just tried and it’s no longer worrying about case it seems. Maybe you could look into it more and update the trac ticket as well. -
techguy posted on the forum topic I would like to disable Email activation in the group How-To and Troubleshooting: 15 years, 8 months ago
@tober11 Thanks. It’s nice to hear. I figured if I was going to be building my project on the back of BuddyPress I should try to do my part to give back. I’m all in with BuddyPress, so you’ll see me around here for a while. BTW, this plugin is now release officially: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/bp-disable-activation/ and will […]

I’ve considered adding the Blog Activation stuff in as well. I tried it initially, but there was some problem with the code. Can’t remember exactly what it was that was causing the issue. I’ll see about looking into it later. I agree the blog should be activated in most cases too.

techguy posted on the forum topic I cannot find .htaccess file to moderate it in the group Installing BuddyPress: 15 years, 9 months ago
@angelntini You’ll probably have to create the file if that folder’s not writeable. I use to have to do that. Just create a blank .htaccess file. Then, paste the code in. Or make it writeable so that it can be updated from within WordPress.

techguy posted on the forum topic Group Invite by Email in the group Third Party Components & Plugins: 15 years, 9 months ago
Just go into the /invite-anyone/by-email/by-email.php file and find where it adds the “Send Invites” nav and change it to only show for admins. Although, I think that there’s also some options so that only Admin’s can see it in the options for the plugin. Maybe those options only work for the other invites, not email […]

techguy posted on the forum topic Could you post a variation of the current buddypress.org theme to this site? in the group Requests & Feedback: 15 years, 9 months ago
I think that I read somewhere that @apetling was reticent to do that since he didn’t want tons of other BP sites popping up that would look the same as this site. Which kind of makes sense so that it doesn’t confuse people that don’t know the difference. Maybe he’d be willing to publish parts […]

techguy posted on the forum topic How can I redirect to a different page? in the group BP Disable Activation: 15 years, 9 months ago
@gregfielding
Glad you like it. There’s a filter on the redirect url: bp_diable_activation_redirect_url You should be able to hook into it and have it redirect. Not sure about the specific case you mention though. There might be a timing issue. Try it out and let me know. -

techguy posted on the forum topic Show Nav Link for Group Members Only in WP (not MU) in the group How-To and Troubleshooting: 15 years, 9 months ago
You’ll need to give a bit more details. Is this a new group page? Is it an existing group page? Does it have sub navs?
It will take understanding a bit of coding, but if you give some details we can try and help.

techguy posted on the forum topic Liquid Web – BP Hosting in the group BuddyPress Hosting: 15 years, 9 months ago
@hnla Mine’s not a recommendation or a promotion. I asked someone for a BP host suggestion and they gave me this host recommendation. That’s why I posted the topic. So, I could get other feedback on it and others could benefit from the feedback as well. Notice that none of the links are affiliate links. @acousins How […]

techguy posted on the forum topic mY WEBSITE DISAPPEARED in the group How-To and Troubleshooting: 15 years, 9 months ago
You can also likely to get into it through your hosts control panel (something like cpanel) and then go to a file manager where you can rename the buddypress folder. I forgot…rename is good too.

Go in and delete the BuddyPress folder in /wp-content/plugins. You might want to back it up before you delete it if you need something in it.

Ok, I created the Hosting Group: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/buddypress-hosting/ It could use everyone’s feedback on the hosts they use and how it’s working for their setup.
