As long as you update the database for WordPress per https://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress, other than the activity stream links in BuddyPress breaking as I mentioned above, I think it should work fine.

There’s no invite code requirement in core or in the default theme. It’s probably coming from a plugin or theme which you are using.

BuddyPress doesn’t do anything unusual with regards to database queries. After all, BuddyPress is a WordPress plugin. It does add extra load, though, as you’ve found out. I think you will need to see about scaling your MySQL resource.

Any links in existing activity stream content will still point to the old URL (you’d have to update manually).

Where is bp_pc_redir_to coming from? That’s not part of core.

I would very strongly urge against using BP 1.2.5.2. Always use the latest version, BP 1.2.8.

Welcome Pack hasn’t been update in a *long* time, which I’m aware of. If I have time I will get out an interim release, otherwise it will have to wait* for a larger update for BuddyPress 1.3 (a little while away yet).

*Unless someone donates money.

If you want to run a network(s) of sites, enable multisite, otherwise don’t. Easy as that.

Don’t worry, bbPress plugin is being worked on which will make this thing as easy. Baby steps.
