It runs their entire WordPress.com website, which is something like 14 million user accounts. It’s a totally different kettle of fish, unless you’ve got your own database of a similar size.

Jeff’s spot on; back ups are only useful when you need to restore from them; and I can guarantee that if you back up specific tables, you are going to kick yourself when disaster strikes and you realise that you need a table you didn’t backup 🙂

It’s all down to what the query needs to do. If it needs to return every field from the records in a table, you may as well use a star, but if you only needed a particular column or two (or three, etc), then you just query for those specific columns.

BP Community Blogs requires WordPress MU/MS, which you aren’t using, which is why you’re getting the error.
