Facecopy sounds more like it.
Go to your dashboard look for forums if you have bbpress sitewide forums> click new forum.
No rush i understand well i was working with the profile search plugin and bp xtras sign up plugin.
But haven’t actually gotten them to display age. just date of birth. the profiles search plugin lets you set an age range but still not show the actual age and there was just an update. Maybe i should try contacting them to see if they can make that an option. Thanks for your help. the bp xtras signup lets you set the age allowed during registration. Bp xtra signup allows you to set the age lets say 13 the youngest etc. But hopefully there is a solution…
So if i make a dropdown age field will it show the users birth date internally?@modemlooper and @djpaul for a non coder how would i place the code? Because this is like science to me.. I’m only good at copy and paste, lol. which line would i place it under etc, thanks.
I know what you mean but a few suggestions if anyone plans on making an users age plug-in.
Make it so the date of birth transfers to age and allows the user to show their age or not show, or show date of birth or not show date of birth. But just show month and date. basically make it optional. The many few things that seem small can be big. Especially if you’re making a great looking social network it should be user friendly for site owner admins and users etc. etc. I’d keep my fingers crossed on this.Good question i myself was going to ask this question you beat me too it. I’m assuming there is some coding that has to be done to do this.
You’re welcome glad i could help, lol.
@nahummadrid I hope there is going to be an upgrade, because currently on buddypress 1.5 it’s not working.
LiIttle something i learned as a newb.
Activate your forum next thing you’ll want to do is then go to your settings you’ll see forums on the bottomYou’ll see archive slug and Single Slugs rename in the forum base and then in the forum slug below aswell. Because forum actually conflicts with the sitewide forum. let’s say name your sitewide forum bulletin board or support. The group forum natively is the forum on the header menu. Which you can later rename..
Now you want to make a topic go to topic in the forums. Click you’ll see “all forums” and “new forum”
I would click new forums, here you name a topic of interest. let’s say general discussion name your topic and below give a basic Description(optional). Now you want to save it you’ll then see a link look at the link copy it. but only copy
http://www.example.com/support
Next thing you’ll need to do which is the final step. Go to the appearance section. You’ll see menu which is you site navigation menu. You’ll have a few things you have to do here.
First make sure you make a custom menu or which now the main theme allows you to or you can make a custom menu name.
look at the section on the top left corner a drop-down you click whichever theme is named or you select as your menu save .
Now go down to custom links remember that link you copied earlier(http://www.example.com/support) paste it in there and name it click add to menu. Now you have a list you can now rearrange move or even create a drop-down menu on. What i did have activity /members /group and with forums i renamed that “group forum directory” moved that slightly to the right which creates a Drop-down, then the site wide forum which i named support or whatever you want to call it. Now save. DONE!!
Go to your site homepage and everything should be there. Best of luck!!
I really do try and be as patient as possible. But atleast if no one has a reply. Tell me who or where i can go to get a response.
Sorry i should put complete error i received.
Fatal error: Call to undefined function is_site_admin() in /home/echoman/public_html/wp-content/plugins/bp-phototag/includes/bp-album-core.php on line 305Thank you boone that worked and that was all i wanted to know and learn it’s a learning curve .I respect that there are volunteers i actually don’t like bumping so trust my i apologize for that. Out of frustration i think you’d understand. Anyways you’re a lifesaver and i won’t bump threads anymore .I know the core team etc, are working hard to get things working. I am now a happy soldier!!
Bump
It would be nice to get a response please.Still hoping for a response. Before this reply was 13 replies which is bad luck lol. So is there some way i can remove the “leave a reply” and where would i find this in the bp-default theme?
@tigerjake
I wish i knew glad it worked though. I honestly think allot of issues are with buddypress 1.5 and this is too early of a release. I myself am waiting for a reply on one of my post. i guess reinstall the forum. It’s kind of the same thing when you have an operating system (ubuntu linux) and a release comes out and there are bugs. So for now i think I’m just going to downgrade back to buddypress 1.2.10@tigerjake
Yeah i know what you mean last night i did the same and realized it probably conflicted with the template pack, so i went to my file manager deleted the bp-template pack and reloaded my site it worked. Then i reinstalled the bp-template pack it worked fine.@braindeadave
Yes i now know its the default theme for a fact because i went my file manager(public_html/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes) replaced the current theme to the former buddypress theme extracted it and went back to the homepage and the leave a reply not add a reply does not show.Ok i made 2 screenshots of 2 different sites i have with 2 different versions of buddypress. Hope this makes a bit more sense of what I’m referring to
Budddypress homepage with buddypress 1.5
http://imageshack.us/f/194/screenshot6mr.jpg/
This is buddypress with buddypress 1.2.10
Yes @BooneGorges has it correct.
I forgot to add that i removed the WordPress that i had with Buddypress 1.5 and manually started again with a fresh install. i went over to WordPress.org and download the Buddypress version 1.2.10
Previously everything buddypress 1.2.9 was like before. no “add a reply” was visible.
But before i added Buddypress 1.2.10 i just checked with the default WordPress theme twenty eleven.
I selected sample page as my homepage and sure enough “add a reply” was visible. So that’s where i get the feeling that the buddypress default theme is acting as a regular wordpress theme.lol i am sorry for my newb question and not making it clear.
Step by step of what i did .
1.Originally i downloaded WordPress manually uploaded. Set up everything manually.
2. I manually uploaded Buddypress 1.2.9 set up everything. I then went to dashboard/settings/reading
Front page displays- I selected a static page (select below) I selected for the Front page > sample page. Then i went over to dashboard/pages/all post, selected “sample page” renamed it “main” .
3.Then i went to home page. The “sample page” which is what i selected as my homepage would show up As the home page. So whatever is on the sample page i would remove and re-edit. On the bottom of the page would just show “edit this entry”.
4.Today i went to my site i saw that i had updates. So i updated to the latest buddypress1.5 .
that’s when everything changed. My home page had “add a reply” as if it were a regular WordPress blog. Or on a regular WordPress page you’d have “add a reply” on the bottom of the page.So on the sample page which is what i set up as my home page. Would look just like that on a regular WordPress page. With no Buddypress installed.
If you’d like i could make screenshots.
Hoping for a reply i downgraded to 1.2.10 and th sample page looks like before edit this entry, and there is no “add a reply” like on buddypress 1.5 default theme. So i am assuming default buddypress 1.5 theme is acting as a wordpress theme. Please please please tell me what i can do or is there going to be a fix?
@ islandcastaway i tried but was unsuccessful. It seem like all the buddypress themes do the same. with the sample page. as before on the previous buddypress 1.2 i would set the sample page as static frontpage and would only see edit this entry.
@Paul Gibbs Yes, when i make the sample page as the static front page it would show add a reply.
From what I’ve read from the link islandcastaway posted it’s seems that the pages “sample page” is acting as a wordpress theme instead of a buddypress theme page.mercime I truly appreciate your help thank you so very much.
Although i didn’t get any responses i figured it out. i just have to learn how to edit the header and place the links possibly figure out how to make a dropdown menu. If there is anyone willing to help me on that ?!.
Thanks for your response BP 1.2.10 was what i installed. I didn’t even know there was a 1.5 rc1.
so now what do i go to those forum or can i be helped here?Oh ok I’ll do that for bbpress.org thanks.
