    @mercime,

    Thank you for your reponses. My site is strictly in testing mode right now. The primary funcationality that I am trying to get working, without success to this point, is completely separate activity streams, members and groups in a Multi Network configuration. To me it doesn’t seem like it should be that much of a hassle but it is.

    Sure, I could just fire up multiple AWS servers to accomplish the same thing but then I have to manage all those separate code bases, which is a drag.

    If you know of somone that can help me accomplish this with BuddyPress I’d like to work with them.

    == Please be aware that when you go WP Multi-Network and then go BP MultiNetwork, you would be expected to know or to learn how to make some changes in database ==

    @mercime Sorry I did not notice that in the documentation. I am in the process of having some custom development work done on the site so paying for professional help is not a problem.

    BP Multi Network is a very specialized, somewhat complex plugin that is probably only supportable by the developers. I wonder if @wpmuguru or @johnjamesjacoby would be willing to provide support?

    The installations instructions are not very clear for BP Multi Network, for instance,
    deactivate BuddyPress on your sub network(s).
    Edit your database and remove the bp- settings for the subnetwork from wp_sitemeta and wp_X_options where X is the blog ID of the main site in your sub network.

    Edit your database? Not sure I would know what to do there…

    @mercime,

    In my initial testing I was having trouble getting BP Multi Network, the name of the plugin you are referring to, to work. I will start from scratch again and run some more tests though..

    +1 for envolve. It’s pretty cool, reasonable cost for the paid versions…

    Check out JanRain’s plug in. It works great and you get other social network as well.

    After more research this is expected behavior in WP Multi Network. Users are only added to the main blog, not the sub blog they join on. Kinda weird but that is the way it works.

    I tried the WPMU Default User Role https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wpmu-default-user-role/screenshots/ but it didn’t work for me.

    Multisite User Management https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/multisite-user-management/installation/ did the trick!

    +1

    BuddyPress needs a recognition plugin. I’ve looked at most of them that attempt this and either they do not work or do not provide the recognition that would be usable in an organizational environment.

    Update: I just created a completely fresh install of WordPress Multi Site, with no plugins or thems and registered a new user. The user account is not added to the site and, of course, does not have any permissions. Yet the user has access to the site as a member.

    Kinda weird. It’s like there is some hidden permissions granted.

    @sbrahesh, yes, I have BP_ENABLE_MULTIBLOG enabled in wp-config.php

    ‘define( ‘BP_ENABLE_MULTIBLOG’, true );’

    I tried again and was able to get the review to load this time. Did you change anything?

    I did find that mentioning myself is a workaround. That way when I view Your Activity/Mentions I can see my Topics that I mention myself in.

    I did see the link under the upper right Profile dropdown menu an item “Forums/Topics Started” but it is empty even though I started Topics.

    Okay, I did that. I still don’t see how to find topics that I created, or how to make them favorites or receive an email when someone responds (if that is possible).

    @mercime, thanks. I will contact @sbrajesh. How do I do that in BuddyPress.org? I followed him but I don’t see how to send a message…

    @mercime wrote: …you’re not likely to see the blog posts from the subsite showing up in the main site’s activity stream at all precisely because of the separate instances

    I note: Yes, I understand this and this is what I want and expect. By the way I am running sbrajesh’s. I also run BuddyPress Activity Plus and have turned it off and on on both sites. It does not affect the output.

    What I am looking at is notification of new Posts showing up in the Activity Stream of each site. In the main site when I write a Post is shows up in that sites Activity Stream (again this is desired). On the sub site when I write a post it does not show up in that site’s Activity Stream (again not desired, I want it to show up). I would post a screen shot but I don’t know how in this forum…

    I am looking to find out why it shows up in the primary site but not the secondary.

    Thanks,

    You might want to take a look at the JanRain plugin. It allows users to login with any social network account, fb, twitter, etc.. and has an auto create account feature. No password is required then.

    Does it still show up in plugins? Have you tried deactivating and reactivating?

    This question has been answered, by me from here: https://codex.buddypress.org/bp_enable_multiblog/

    It would be cool to be able to mark the question answered like stackexchange… :)
