I have managed to run some profiling with and without BuddyPress enabled:

When it is disabled: 1674 different functions called in 3102 milliseconds
When it is enabled: 2602 different functions called in 5446 milliseconds

It calls just short of 1000 more functions which takes 2.5s longer. How would I go about optimising the BP code to reduce this?

Damn all of that is pretty complicated. Somebody needs to make this easier. All I want is to add a notification with a link (that makes the notification go away ). No components, admin, functions, templates or anything else. Well BP – this is the first time i’ve thought of you as being a challenge to work with.

I am competent in reading code, but I don’t know what needs to be changed.
The plugin to do this says I need to edit header-buddypress, sidebar-buddypress and footer-buddypress so what exactly do I need to do to these files?

Personally,

I find that http://www.cometchat.com/ is great.
http://www.arrowchat.com/ is a little better but has a few more constraints.

Unfortunately not, this plugin will do ‘effectively’ the opposite as it is a mass-messaging one. Sorry for the confusion
