| WordPress Origin Story | I remember me that a friend asked me in 2005 why I didn’t have a blog (of course using WordPress). He mentioned: “That would be a great update for your website about PHP web development”. It took some time to work on that idea and finally in 2006 I published my first article “Parse html with PHP, a preg_match_all tutorial” on my Web Development Blog. The funny thing is that it took ~6 month to get some visitors for this website. While my first website finalwebsites.com had already a ~400 visitors a day, it was sometimes very hard to continue blogging. It took also some time before I tweaked or developed my first own WordPress theme. During the first years I used free and premium themes and finally in 2009 I programmed a custom theme for my dutch website on finalwebsites.nl. That was also the time that I wrote several plugins for the standalone version of bbPress. Today 90% of my personal and customer’s websites are based on WordPress and I write a lot of custom code to tweak these WordPress websites to the next level. |
