@firetag Hey there,
A quick question about your groups/ categories plugin. It’s exactly what I need, but the dropdown menu doesn’t work when you try to put a group within a category. It just says “no category”. Any ideas what’s wrong? Maybe I’m missing something?

@firetag Sorry I didn’t get back to you sooner. We have three tiers of groups and our client wants to be able to create only the lowest level of groups. When we get to the group creation page we were hoping for a script that would allow you to first select the top level group, then sub-level, then choose which group you’d like to place yours…[Read more]

@firetag Anything we can do to help with the bp categories plugin? We’d love to use this on a worldwide site. We’ve been modifying it to make it work for now, but would love to see some more functionality.

@mutualdesigns I don’t really work on any buddypress sites anymore and haven’t worked on that plugin for a while. I thought functionality like that was replaced by newer versions of wordpress & buddypress. What’s the URL to the site you are implementing it with?

@firetag Currently using this and I am very impressed… Couple of things. Need someway to control in which category a user can create a group. For instance… Have a “Base -> Cat -> Sub-Cat -> User Group” Make it so a user can only create a “User Group” within the Sub-Cat… just a suggestion.

I’m hoping within a month but I can’t be sure because I don’t know exactly the kind of workload I am going to have with school this year.. and until Christmas this is always the busiest time for me anyway… but I’d say a full non beta release with pretty much all features within a few months… next release hopefully within a week… fixing a few…[Read more]

Good to hear. This plugin is a significant step forward in managing BP forums through groups…especially in my view. I’m surprised this hasn’t been something that has been considered for a BP Core enhancement…. it only makes sense.

@firetag you say it is best to not install this plugin if groups already exist. Will this issue be corrected in your release version? And, you say this is wise for purposes of forward compatibility. Is that only an issue for the groups that might have been in existence upon installation of this test version?

Yes this issue will be corrected in the release version… and its not that it negatively effects your groups or data attached to them its that in versions to come I hope to release a new feature that replaces the old groups directory… this wont be possible if your groups don’t have the correct meta values set…

Well I just got back from vacation last night… which is why so many of these updates and questions have gone unanswered but it really depends on what my work load is this year for high school… I am hoping to a new release with some bug fixes and new features within a month… permitting my work load is easier than I expect it to be…

I really can’t provide an accurate ETA since I am already very busy and I have school starting in a week but I would say hopefully within a month the full release version one will be released

@firetag I couldn’t be happier! Thank you for the “freemium” plugin. Installed on my localhost and testing right now. So far, no issues. I need to create all the categories I need to be able to report issues, if any.

@firetag One client decided to go ahead and use the Business Directory plugin so as not to mingle the group functionality with it… but I have another client it may still be a great fit for. I’d love to see it in action once you have it up and running. What’s the URL?

I don’t know if I’ll be ready to test on a live site this weekend because I’ve been fighting a migraine this week. I may also be redesigning the backend of the plugin a little bit. I’ll be sure to keep you updated though.
