Ok sorry update took to long got stuck doing other work… Anyway the way I am handling new group types is by using meta data as Boone Gorges suggested, but I am doing it quite different than the way it’s handled on the buddypress.org site….just because that’s what my site requires.

anyway the new group type is totally separate from other groups….(for users it’s actually not even called a group) It creates a whole new directory for this certain type of group…

@stwc I will add in rating functionality hopefully because this could be useful to my site also…

edit: after working on it for a little I have decided the functionality I need is a lot different than what everyone is asking for, but I’ll try to work on both at the same time..

Ok I just got back from work, but I need to get a client site on today that I forgot about lol so I’ll post a tut or something tomurrow…

@agrundner I am going to filter the group types in the theme it’s the only way to do it… Unless someone knows a better way?

@Travel-Junkie It is separate from the normal types its actually separate from the whole create new group (at least that’s the way I’m doing it I’ll show everyone how to do it with normal group creation if it’s requested)

@Svenl77 I’ll try to make a plugin, but you’ll still need to edit your them for it to work…

Well I am just about done with this.. I’ll try to post a tut of what I did after my volunteer job tomorrow. It’s really not that hard, but I got the core all hacked up right now so I’m just converting it to all work with actions.

If people want I could make a plugin with this kind of functionality.

I need to skip over a chunk of code using the actions…is the only way to do this is by making a div and making it hidden?..but then people can technically still access it? nvm guess it doesn’t matter if they can access it anyway

yeah but whenever users create new groups I’ll have to add in a new group type like ( public, private, hidden, customgroup1 or whatever ). But I guess the reason for using group meta would be because it’s easier to cache?

I did some looking through the docs and found that using the group api would be the best way to achieve this….

Nvm in case anyone was wondering you can use the ORDER BY keyword in your sql to get the returned value in the order of the highest to lowest or we…

Thats really cool, but not exactly what I am working on… I am developing a sort of competition thing on my site and I need to know how to do the highscores portion of it…(i’m done with the rest mostly)…if someone could post some psuedo code or something it would be great :] @dre1080 thanks anyway though man im going to defiantly check out that plugin too

Well everyone has been very helpful, but I am still very confused on how this system works and since I have had no time to experiment I’ve decided to just keep this thread alive. So my last question is: Can I just handle form data anywhere within the plugin or is it in a certain class that this has to be done? … I think I am also going to try to directly ask the plugin developers maybe they would be able to better explain it…

Ok thanks a lot man! I defiantly understand the structure a lot better, but I have a few more questions after that… What file exactly is the form suppose to be under?

…the way I was trying to set it up was put it in the templates folder then create a file with the default theme code plus the form code in the same file. Once the user hits the submit button can I just collect that $_POST data anywhere in my plugin?

    @francescolaffi

Wow that sounds great! Well I guess I’ll make one more suggestion if it’s possible, but it’s not totally needed. I was wondering if you could possibly make it so the admin can add different fields to the picture like new text fields. This way I can require the user to enter different information in about it. Also I was wondering how I could basically install two versions of this plugin (using one as originally intended and the other version for the other use I have for it). I was also wondering if in the new version it’s possible to input max number of albums…

I have a few questions. FYI I’m decent at coding, but I’ve spent more time making games in java than making plugins for wordpress.

I heard a few people talking about how you can change the way the plugin works while still being able to properly update it.

    How would one do this?

I also have a few feature requests if the above isn’t possible because I don’t feel like changing the core code every time it’s updated otherwise I probably won’t update:

    1. Ability to change the name from ‘Album’ to anything you want and same with ‘My pictures’

    2. NVM this one can do it on my own
