The plugin https://wordpress.org/plugins/buddypress-media/ (now known as rtMedia) will also provide you with uploading of media files on the activity stream.

I just checked your issue in BuddyPress Media version 2.15.3 and there’s no such error. Can you tell us in which version you are having this problem?
I tested it on this site: http://buddypress.aws.gagan.pro (my BuddyPress test site)

@jamie771 : Not tomorrow, but by the end of this week, this bug will be fixed. There are few more modifications going on in this plugin which needs to be completed before its new version is finalized. You can see what development is currently going on in the plugin on Github Commit history

@jamie771 : If you are talking about https://wordpress.org/plugins/buddypress-media, the mobile upload functionality is about to be completely changed. The problem you are facing is because of the plupload library that is being used in BuddyPress Media.
