| WordPress Origin Story | My main blog was originally on Blogger, but I had to move it because of the pop-up ads that were prevalent at the time. My husband was dying of cancer and I was writing about his last days, to keep people updated on his condition. The ads were exacerbating an already-difficult situation. With no prior knowledge of WordPress/CMS or any website management, I somehow managed to set up a domain and convert the Blogspot to a WordPress blog by myself in December 2005. It took about three days (the 1,000+ comments were on another now-defunct platform called Haloscan) and the stress nearly made me give up, but I was desperate to move it all before having to make the final sad announcement. It was worth it for the peace of mind, but those were very hard days in 2005. Thankfully, these days it’s much easier to do the conversion and more than 12 years later, my life has completely changed (I’m remarried and moved to Portugal), but I’m still blogging with WordPress. |
