So I have been using bitnami wordpress container and I think pagespeed is a Google product included with the container. It seems to be a pre-load cache of some sort. I’ve disabled it and the problem hasn’t recurred (so far).

    Are any of these responsible?

I’m not sure what’s happening here but my replies don’t seem to post.
Thanks @shayne, but this is an intermittent fault so it only happens occasionally, no sense in disabling plugins as the site runs fine most of the time. It’s only happened twice so a bit hard to identify by disabling plugins.

Thanks Shane, yes that works! Thanks for your help. I’ve only done the first part so far though, the second part I’m not sure what I should edit in request-membership.php? I’m not a dev so I struggle to understand code…

    Thanks

    Greg.

Haha thanks Shane! Yes it is annoying. I’m really struggling with it as I’m sure many users just click “request membership” and then browse elsewhere not realising they still need to submit the request.
Thanks I’ll try that and let you know how it goes!

    Hi Shane

This is actually standard Buddypress functionality that I’m trying to change. See this Codex page:

How To Join a Private Group

Under the heading “Single group page”, Step 2 is the step I am trying to eliminate.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Greg.

Apologies, new here… I thought it was part of the same thing.
    I’ll find that. Thanks!

    Yep, done that.
I THINK I’ve resolved the problem temporarily by using add_filter( ‘bp_email_use_wp_mail’, ‘__return_true’ ); in my functions.php, but I’m not sure that should be needed.
Separately I’m also using the Buddypress Group Subscription Email plugin and some of the (default) emails in that, such as digests and new activity emails, are still not sending. The Buddypress Core ones are however.

OK I’ll do that, many thanks Prashant!

Just adding to this, I’ve found that clicking on a picture in one of these posts (I’ve made long posts both with rtMedia images and without, the Read More button has no effect on both), brings up the lightbox on that picture, but it’s only one of the pictures in the excerpt. If I then click left or right to move to the next picture it moves through the excerpt’s pictures, but won’t display pictures in that post that aren’t in the excerpt – instead, it moves to displaying pitcures from the post immediately previous or next in the group feed.

This seems definitely like a bug to me… not sure where to report it?

It does seem to work correctly with the Legacy template, yes.
If this is a bug I don’t hold out for a short-term fix… anyone have any ideas for a workaround? I’m not a developer so just learning here.

    Thanks Prashant!
