That’s not necessarily user friendly, I have that installed but users will not necessarily have media uploaded somewhere and at the limited? number of providers oEmbed can make use of, however most users are familiar with uploading media from their local machines via a simple upload form control and will likely want that or at […]

Funny you should ask that, as that is what I’ve just been quizzed over by a client who expects and wants to be able to upload a photo directly into an activity update or forum post; the answer is you can’t at present.

There are ways of saying things and there are ways of saying things Glen 🙂
TBH I’m not sure these sorts of discussions should be directed to and made on the site in question though, is there not a forum/group where one can ask questions of the author/s in advance of possible use?

hnla posted on the forum topic the generated css classes have some errors in them in the group CubePoints Buddypress Integration: 15 years, 6 months ago
I think you are referring to the parent WP plugin though?
I noticed this in, I think, a few functions but the error – if it was one – was carried through so nothing broke.

Glen that’s a little rude 😉

hnla posted on the forum topic Idea for WP3 Menu Usage in the group Add All Nav Links to BP Adminbar: 15 years, 6 months ago
IE8 should never be dropped into ‘Compatibility Mode’ for any bp site or for that matter any fairly new site or site written by a standards aware developer as all you are doing is asking IE8 to throw out all it’s standards improvements and to render in the old broken style of IE6/7 and even […]

hnla posted on the forum topic The BuddyPress of My Website Looks COMPLETELY Different in Firefox! WHY?! in the group How-To and Troubleshooting: 15 years, 6 months ago
The reality is that frontend coding is deceptively easy but the reality is that it’s actually extremely complex when one burrows into the inner workings of the DOM and parsers, to explain an issue as above is almost meaningless without the full context of the code. Browsers do not all handle CSS rules 100% the […]

hnla posted on the forum topic Directory index forbidden by Options directive: in the group gPress: 15 years, 6 months ago
Probably better to let the plugins authors answer further perhaps in some way the plugin does need indexes but I’d be surprised if so, but also am ignorant of the specifics here 🙂

hnla posted on the forum topic Directory index forbidden by Options directive: in the group gPress: 15 years, 6 months ago
This is an Apache server directive, and is a default ; ‘indexes’ refers to the fact that one can navigate to a directory and have the server display all the files in it in a list style, generally on a production server you do not want this happening to prevent the error one generally drops […]

Considering that bp-custom.php doesn’t exist unless the developer creates it then if it is found that is likely to be the culpret.
As Roger says though this problem has to be the result of some customisation or plugin somewhere BP 1.2.5.2 onwards doesn’t show this issue in a vanilla install.

You restore a DB from a backup, have you taken a backup? if not get in the habit quickly it’s essential and also absolutely essential to perform before you go anywhere near one to start manually editing tables, which can be a dangerous exercise.

thekmen’s advise should be noted to refer to a true custom theme rather than a child theme. If you are running as a ‘child theme’ i.e you are using and referencing the bp-default files – even if you have copied over some to customise then that is a child theme and you are still loading […]

DON’T USE TABLE’S!!!! SOME BROWSERS DON’T LIKE THEM!!!! Please don’t make statements like that it could be misleading to others who may not be very experienced coders. There is nothing wrong with tables what so ever they are a and always have been a perfectly valid and semantic element when used in their correct context for […]

Probably by creating a little piece of scripting. jQuery would be the preferred and easiest approach. I would suggest perhaps that you look at SM forums code and see how they have managed it, you might possibly be able to replicate the function from their example, or head over to jQuery plugins and see if […]

hnla posted on the forum topic Can't access wordpress admin after installing buddy press. in the group How-To and Troubleshooting: 15 years, 6 months ago
Well the first thing that must be done when troubleshooting is to take your installation back to the bare minimum required, that means no plugins other than BP and using the default BP theme then test whether the issue still arises; this way we know if the issue is theme or plugin related and of […]

hnla posted on the forum topic Can't access wordpress admin after installing buddy press. in the group How-To and Troubleshooting: 15 years, 6 months ago
Why can’t you access admin is more to the point, what exactly is happening. You do not need to remove BP plugin simply rename it which has the effect of breaking or un-setting the activation. If you have tried solutions it is insufficient to state you have that is meaningless, please make the effort to […]

In fairness the docs are a little light at present, but being brought up to date as quickly as possible. Essentially BP needs the root, you cant run bp on a user blog created by the main blog.

The ‘New Site’ is not! a buddypress site it’s a WP blog which will carry the BP adminbar. These blogs effectively work just as a standard WP blog their theme is defined from their own admin backend. I would have a good read of all the docs you can find on the BP codex and […]
